Scheduled for an early morning, 7:45 AM interview.
We left our house early, which was good since we hit some traffic on the way in. All in all we arrived 7:40. Parking was just across the street ($5/20 min). Got through security and was directed to go to 2nd floor. registered with the front desk on 2nd floor at 7:45 AM.
Was surprised there were so many people waiting there that early in the morning. Estimated 70-80.
The wait was roughly 25 minutes. A lady came out and called my name - and we followed her in to her office. We were sworn in while still standing and was offered to sit down.
First she asked for government issued photo ID. We both gave her our driver licenses. Then she confirmed our names. She then explained she will ask my wife (petitioner) some questions first and follow up with some questions to me (beneficiary).

Hi,
Yesterday my wife (USC) & I went for my AOS interview at San Francisco office. My wife & I are Indian-Tamil orgin. We are married for the last 19 months. Our IO is a young white lady. She was very professional. After swearing in, we were asked to take the seat and she explained the process of the interview. She said it's going to be 3 parts, 1 - Going over the forms & cross verifying it's data, 2 - We need to answer her questions, 3 - We can submit any additional documents. After going through 485, 130 & 325 forms she asked us only very few questions to explain about our place of first meet in a different city than the places where we lived, whether we had any honeymoon & she wanted to know our when, where & hows. While explaining these we provided certain documentation evidences to our narrations. We also showed her our ritual based Engagement, Wedding albums & Vacation photos. Finally we also submitted current documents such as renewed apartment lease, joint credi... read complete review

I have to say that I find the entire process undignifying, belittling, inhumane, alienating, intimidating. I came in on a K1 Visa, only to be with my man, but also bringing in a great education and work power, and a will to contribute to society. This is how you get greeted.
We waited for our interview for about 30-40 minutes, not too bad (I thought no phones inside the building - wrong. Everyone had theirs out, and laptops, tablets...) We got called in to a female officer who seemed very tough. We got interrogated in turns, very fast questions. She went over the submitted forms, and then asked us about each others' families (where do the siblings live), income (me "homemaker", he has a union job), bank accounts, joint stuff. (Of which, naturally, there is very little when I have no work permit and my husband is a modest earner...) About our living situation (we have 2 roommates who are on the lease with my husband, but not me - no job, no security, no lease - that made ... read complete review

Sorry this is super long. We travelled down really early, so that we had 2.5 times the amount of time to travel. Got there about 50 mins early and parked in the on street parking on Washington street. There really isn't much parking available. Went in, was super easy and the security guys were really nice.
Sent to a different room than on the interview letter.Gave the interview letter over and was told by receptionist to sit in section c. Waited till approx 15 mins past our interview time and was called by a middle aged lady.
She took us across the hall into a separate area with offices. javascript'')
She had us take the oath then sat down, asked for ID, seemed annoyed that I did not have a drivers license or EAD with me, it was approved last week but not shipped until the day of my interview. Went over the yes/no questions.
She then asked how we met, husband answered and stated we had lived together since 2008, it is act... read complete review

Adjusting from K1 - UK Applicant
For some reason I got an interview appointment ahead of my EAD/AP. Coming from a low fraud country I had expected no interview but a long wait for the GC so was a bit surprised when I got the letter so quickly (see my timeline for dates).
As with my UK K1 visa interview I had spent a lot of time reading VJ and compiling a neat , economical package of the documents I thought they would need. As with the UK interview I didn't need many of them.
My interview was at 08:35am and unlike the embassy interview it was relatively easy to get in and get booked in (and it is on the second floor). We were there about 15mins early and were seen promptly at the appointed time. Pleasant female IO took us through the interview.
1) Relationship history - very easy to cover and considering we first had a relationship at college 30 years ago, the photo of that broke the ice nicely. Also showed a few wedding photo... read complete review
