We joined the queue outside at 9:30, got in just before the rain started at 9:50. Take an umbrella!
The woman who handed out numbers told us that we would be called to window #1, so we should sit near there, which we did. It was obvious that was the window for "I" people. Our number was not called until 12:15. It was apparent that most people going to window #1 were not prepared, thereby slowing the whole process down. The lady at window #1 was most appreciative that we had all the necessary photocopies, and had our documents organized in the way that she required them. From what we could see, nobody else had done this.
We were called to the second interview about 13:45. This interview was very brief, less than ten minutes. Incidentally, this interview did not take place in a private room, but standing at a window similar to the first one, not at all what we expected. We had anticipated a sit-down, private room interview. The consular official was very frien... read complete review

This was my 6th visit to the US Embassy in London, having been previously for J-1 visas five times! As such I was pretty much prepared for everything they expect. I even left the remote keyfob for my car behind one of the wheels so I had absolutely no metal on me whatsoever.
The embassy had opened up late due to a power failure, which meant there were quite a few people in front of me with earlier appointments than the current time, but the processed the line very quickly and I was inside the building about 30 minutes after arrival.
I had the 6th immigrant visa ticket for the day, and they were processing the third one when I got to the main waiting area. I had hoped there would be some preference given for immigrant visa interviews, but unfortunately not. On this particular day they went at a ratio of about 130 non-immigrant visa tickets to each individual immigrant visa ticket. It took about two and a half hours to be seen at the first window, where the officer found my... read complete review

I had an early appointment so I got to the embassy before it was open and was the first person there. So everything went fast for me, probably because I was first in line.

I found everything went well and was quite organised.

I did have one problem though. I was asked for proof of my fiancee's father's passport or birth certificate to prove his citizenship (he signed the affidavit of support) After looking through everything and asking on here it turns out I was never told anywhere to bring it so I guess this was some sort of mistake made by them. Anyway I was given the form (I forget the name of it now) for additional information. I was told to have my fiancee's father fax it to them which he did and about 1-2 weeks later I got my visa delivered to me.

So my advice would be to have proof of citizenship (copy of birth certificate or passport page) of whoever is doing the affidavit for you, even if you're not "require" to have it, could... read complete review

From arriving outside to getting out of the building - 4 hours.
2 hour wait for first call to submit documents and fingerprints, however, I was at the bathroom when my number came up - there are only 2 toilets for females and a long queue and the tannoy system cannot be heard in the bathroom so you take a risk in going there! When I came out the bathroom I checked the screens and saw that my number had been called - I rushed to the window only to be met by a mean looking CO who said she was about to close her window as I had not come when my number was called. I explained I was at the bathroom, but that would make NO difference. If you don't hear your number, they have a right to send you away and go back to square 1 in applying for a new interview date - so be aware - go to the bathroom at your own risk!
She was stressed, and to be quite honest, who can blame them - there are hundreds of people in there, the paperwork must be astonomical. She said was sighing and grum... read complete review

Interview appointment was at 8:30am, so I arrived at around 8:10. There was a small queue, mostly students. Finally got inside just before 9am after going through security and getting a number. About an hour and a half later I finally get called to the interview window. Hand over my affidavit of supports, passport and birth/police certificate then was told to fill out this pink courier slip and wait again for my number to be called. Another hour later I went back to another window when another gentleman saw me. After asking me when we got engaged and explaining to him how many times we had seen each other he asked me to write her full name on this form then sign it. After that he told me that he had already gone through our packet and everything looked perfect... approved! Told me to pay the courier fee and the visa + passport should be back with me in 3-5 days.

Just a word of caution, Bring something to read/do with you or you will be bored out of your minds like I was... read complete review
