We joined the queue outside at 9:30, got in just before the rain started at 9:50. Take an umbrella!
The woman who handed out numbers told us that we would be called to window #1, so we should sit near there, which we did. It was obvious that was the window for "I" people. Our number was not called until 12:15. It was apparent that most people going to window #1 were not prepared, thereby slowing the whole process down. The lady at window #1 was most appreciative that we had all the necessary photocopies, and had our documents organized in the way that she required them. From what we could see, nobody else had done this.
We were called to the second interview about 13:45. This interview was very brief, less than ten minutes. Incidentally, this interview did not take place in a private room, but standing at a window similar to the first one, not at all what we expected. We had anticipated a sit-down, private room interview. The consular official was very friendly and helpful, the most solemn part being an oath sworn by my fiance as to the veracity of the information supplied and his marital intentions toward myself. The official had studied our papers and had clearly made up her mind to approve our application before she spoke to us.
Our only problem was that the Knightsbridge Doctors had fouled up the paperwork of the medical, so our application will not be finalized until the Embassy receives the necessary paperwork from them. We got the impression that this was not the first time this has happened.
After the months of waiting and trouble of carefully completing and filing forms, making the long trip to London from Glasgow, and the final seemingly endless waiting for our number to be called, it seemed anticlimactic to be simply be told to go pay the courier service.
We stayed at the Millennium which, while expensive, was wonderfully convenient.
