One thing I wanted to add to my review but forgot, myth busting:
1. You do not need an updated PCC if it less than a year old, as per the P4 instructions and contrary to the 3 month limit stated on the MOI PCC
2. The pdf with information for the USEM in Abu Dhabi available from the DoS website is out of date, the photo requirements on there are incorrect - follow the P4 instructions (2" x 2" - full frontal)
3. No need to register via usvisa-info.com for CR1/IR1 category

So 441 days after starting this process I picked up my visa yesterday - what a relief!
Interview Date: Sunday 08-FEB-14
Arrived at the USEM Abu Dhabi at 06.20am; interview appointment was at 08.30am. There were what appeared to be 7 people already in front of me. There are wooden benches, with a canopy and fans (not needed for us given the time of day and year). IV Applicants sit on the left other visas on the right.
At around 07.20am the G4S security guards called the IV queue up to the entrance of the Embassy where we lined up to present our interview letters to a local lady in a kiosk. At this point I realise there are only 4 people in front of me, the rest were friends and family of the applicants ...
Once you present your letter the G4S security guard lines you up to enter security. Two by two you are called in to airport style security; phones must be switched off and along with car keys surrendered - you are given ... read complete review

First, they will not let the petitioner in with your fiancé or spouse which started us off bad as the information on VJ said that I could go in (I've changed that on VJ). We had prepared assuming I would be there for everything but the final interview.
We drove down the night before so we could be there early and avoid any early morning traffic problems getting to Abu Dhabi from Dubai. We stayed at the Premier Inn Capital Centre (AED406 for 1 night, 2 persons). We got there about 6:15AM (not much sleep that night) and were first in line, by 7AM there were 8 or 9 parties in line and by 7:30 maybe 15. PLEASE NOTE: NO BRIEFCASE, PURSE, HANDBAG OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE EMBASSY PROPERTY. HAVE HIM/HER BRING HIS/HER WALLET AND PUT THE DOCUMENTS IN A CLEAR PLASTIC BAG (LIKE CARREFOUR). Many people were not allowed in because of this and had to find a place to put their bags off the property. (not even allowed to leave then on the waiting benches). We purchas... read complete review

This is a review for the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi, K1 Visa interview.
-I got there at 7:15 am, there were 7 families already before me. They make you line up sitting on the bench. Note that strictly the applicants only are allowed at the Embassy, but family and friends can wait outside. NO BAGS ALLOWED. If you have a phone switch it off but better leave it at home. If you don't comply with the rules you can be denied the visa without the interview. So, do not bring any. Family/Friends bags who are there to wait for you outside can hold a bag for you, but the insides may be checked by the security guard. You are allowed to bring only the plastic bag with documents in it, and you can bring a bottle of water, but they will make you drink from it at the security scanner to make sure its water.
-At 8 am they line you up in front of the door where there is a counter and they will ask for your Appointment letter and a passport for a check up. After you line back again and wait ... read complete review

Advice… arrive as early as possible. I got there at 7 am and there were 6 people in front of me, some being families, who take a lot of time to process throughout the different stages. Once the applicants arrived, a pleasant guard segregated the immigrant from non-immigrant visas. Benches were provided outside, down a covered area; only the applicant was allowed into the building while loved ones waited patiently outside. At 7:30 the external kiosk was manned by a local lady, who checked each person by letter with passport. You were then ushered to another line where in twos you were allowed in for security checking, mobiles handed over and a receipt given. In groups you were assembled in that building for 5 minutes then ushered across an internal courtyard into the visa processing building. On entry, each applicant was given two tickets with a number on it. You maintained this number throughout the process and were called up on that number.
We were seated at the far end of a... read complete review
