Review Topic: K1 Visa

I had been stressing about the K-1 process for over 6 months and I'm happy to say this part of our journey is over!! My fiancé had his interview about two weeks ago in Guayaquil and was APPROVED! After reading several consulate reviews I was super nervous about the interview, so I decided I (USC) would be present…and I'm glad I was. I think that made our case stronger, although I saw one guy get approved without. Interview was straight forward 4 questions at the first window 4 questions at the second window.

At the first window we were asked
1. how did you meet?
2. Whats dates did you serve in the Peace Corps in Ecuador.
3. After your service how many times have you seen each other.
4. Do you have any current visas to the US? (asked my fiancé)

Then the wait for another 1hr or so…. then the second round of questions.
1. How did you meet?
2. Are guys going to have civil or clerical marriage?
3. How man... read complete review

The supervisor of the Immigrant visa section was extremely rude, asking personal questions not pertinents to our case, making derrogatory statements as of the nature and length of our relationship. He took almost 10 minutes to decide that the proof provided which were pictures, flight itineraries and US fiance's passport stating the actual 3 entries in 2014 were not sufficient, calling our pictures 'selfies' and questioning as of why more people were not in our pictures. He placed us in "Administrative Processing" and it wasn't until a formal repoonse letter from US lawyer plus 53 screenshot pages of daily skpe conversations, going back to April 2014; plus 41 additional pictures which included friends and their pets; plus over 10 pages of e-mails back dated to April 2014... for the embassy to finally send an e-mail that based on the additional information provided, the K1 Visa was approved. It is really a shame that US officers behave in such a negative and predisposed way on foreign s... read complete review

Long story short (don't have much time right now) I had read all the horror stories here describing the worst. Frankly, I am wondering if there is a different Guayaquil somewhere else because NO ONE, literally NO ONE was rude mean or anything of the sort. Everyone was at the least polite and at best actually friendly. I had all the proper documentation ready for my fiancee and it was actually mostly a matter of waiting waiting and waiting some more. Finally they called us together and really they spent 15 minutes with us and really only asked us 3 or 4 questions and of that, none of them were very serious (i mean i was asked if i speak English lol). I don't know if they completely overhauled the staffing as a result of negative publicity or what, but really, as far as dealing with government bureaucracy goes, I have had far worse experiences. the 4 out of 5 is simply because the young intern monitoring the queue had less knowledge and experience than the local security guards and the g... read complete review

And we got approved! I really want to share my experience with you guys.

About our case:

-I WENT TO MY INTERVIEW ALONE
-2 years, 4 months and a few days together
-He works in the Air Force
-I have been unemployed since December 2013
-I have traveled to the US three times as a J1
-He has been in Ecuador once and just for two weeks

I would like to tell you I have always had good experiences at the Consulate. Process for visas have improved over the years and the new building is really nice and bigger but i think they were more organized in the old one, because people did not have to stand waiting for so long and had to do many queues (for residence is not bad, you just have to do one queue but i am talking about other visas).

Anyways I would like to give a rate of 5 because everybody there were polite, even the security guards but I had a bad experience the firs time.

I h... read complete review

We got approved!!!!!

I accompanied my fiancee, Andrea, to our interview.

Our interview for the K1 visa was on August 11th, 2014. It was at 1:30PM at the Guayaquil Consulate. The location is relatively new, as of October 2013, and is located at Calle Santa Ana y Av. José Rodriguez Bonin. It is located about 20 minutes outside of the center of Guayaquil where the airport is and old consulate was located. It should be a $5-$10 20-30 minute cab ride, depending on traffic and which cab you get into.

Outside of the Consulate there is a small kiosk where you can get copies made or passport photos taken, if necessary. We had to get passport photos taken because the ones we had were rejected due to being too small. The 2 5cm by 5cm passport photos cost $5 and were taken and printed in less than 5 minutes.

Outside of the embassy you will be asked to show your ID and paperwork confirming your appointment. Then you will be asked to empt... read complete review
