Review Topic: K1 Visa

And we got approved! I really want to share my experience with you guys.

About our case:

-I WENT TO MY INTERVIEW ALONE
-2 years, 4 months and a few days together
-He works in the Air Force
-I have been unemployed since December 2013
-I have traveled to the US three times as a J1
-He has been in Ecuador once and just for two weeks

I would like to tell you I have always had good experiences at the Consulate. Process for visas have improved over the years and the new building is really nice and bigger but i think they were more organized in the old one, because people did not have to stand waiting for so long and had to do many queues (for residence is not bad, you just have to do one queue but i am talking about other visas).

Anyways I would like to give a rate of 5 because everybody there were polite, even the security guards but I had a bad experience the firs time.

I had scheduled my interview for Sept 2nd at 13:30. I arrive 45 mins early. You have to say you are applying for residence, show your passport and tell them the time of your interview, go to the security guards where they check everything you have, get inside.. more security guards..then go to the second stage and say again you are there for a residence case and you go right after to the building where you will find more security guards lol and they tell you where to go.

I waited in the queue. It was my turn when i was supposed to give them my passport and some information BUT! guess what! They didnt find my file, They said they have received my case electronically but not physically, trust me this was unexpected and so frustrating because there was nothing i could do than just wait. They said they could start my process because of that and they were gonna call me when they received it (hopefully in a week) and give a new date for my interview.I was more worried about my paperwork getting lost or something like that. I think I got depressed and mi gringo was upset but oh well..

Next day, Sept 3rd! at 7:45 Consulate called me to tell me they had my file and If I could have the interview today at 10:30am.. OMG We were so excited!! And of course I said i didnt have any problem with that.

I think the first person who received my passport was from Ecuador, she made a few questions...

* His phone number
* How we met
* Any plans for wedding, when, where
* If he has been in Ecuador
* If my family has visa and if they were going to my wedding
* If we have had an engagement family reunion

Then i was sent to sit down and wait.. after a few mins the Consul called me and just asked me if I have been in the US before and for how long and if I have ever had any problem with the law here or there.. and that was all! she told me your visa has been approved! And I left with a huge smile in my face! )))

Btw they never asked me for any proof or document, I brought a lot! but they didnt ask me for anything!

I went alone to the interview, they didnt ask me why he wasnt with me or anything.. I think you have to try to go with your fiance/é but if you cant do not panic! Be confident, honest and prepared. As Ive writen, they didnt request any proof and they didnt ask me to explain them why he couldnt come, but every case is different right?! I do think proof we sent for our I-129 form helped, we sent a lot of documents and information.

Anyways I spent 1 hour and 15 mins, most of the time waiting in lines and about 10 mins with the first person and 5 mins with the Consul.

Good Luck to everybody

Andrea
