Lots and lost of preparation led to this day. Our attorney and his staff were fantastic in getting us ready. Without them, we I don't think my wife and I had ever been so nervous. The USCIS official was all business and asked lots of questions about our circumstances and our intentions upon my wife's entering the U.S.A. Afterwords, we heard the hearings officer was known as being the toughest in the Sacramento office Her decision was made at the end of the day (perhaps because it was Valentine's Day), and she was granted her AOS :D

We had our interview yesterday....man that was TOO EASY!! We were approved!! My wife got a I-551 stamp on her passport and the lady said she would get her green card in 2 weeks! Afterwards we rushed to Social Security, showed the stamp and applied for SS. They said she would get it in 3-4 weeks.
The lady basically wanted to confirm with my wife if she knew her address, phone number and get this her parents names. LOL. She asked questions from the I-485 form I believe. We brought a bunch of pictures to the room and she asked, "what's that?" We said "pictures", and she looked surprised like it was something new to bring pictures to an interview. She then said "ok let's see them" as if she wasn't expecting to see pictures. We showed her pics of our civil wedding, pics of our travels to Reno, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, pics with my family and friends, etc. She then said ok I'm going to put this stamp on her passport so you can go to SS a... read complete review

We had our AOS interview (AOS via K1 visa) on September 27th 07.
When we got there the guards checked our IDs and checked us with the hand held gadget. Scanned hubbys bag. We had to go to Level 2 in the elevator and to the interview waiting room. Lots of corridors but hubby found it.
We sat there for a minute trying to figure out who we give the appointment letter to because the window was closed. Then we actually read the note on the window (lol) and it instructs you to push your appointment letter under.
No more than 5 minutes later a lady came out and called us in and led us into her office.
She had these waterfall mini sculptures in her office which were relaxing but didn't help Andrew as he needed to pee the whole time we were in there.
She asked general questions, name, address, SSN etc.
Then asked us generally about our relationship. How we met, when we got married, when Andrew proposed etc nothing really in-depth.
Then she ask... read complete review

We came prepared for everything and anything. We had duplicates of every document we submitted and thought we were prepared for the worse. We could not have been more surprised by the process. It took very little time, maybe 20 minutes. We were both sworn in, the officer asked for evidence of joint accounts, tax returns or anything that could prove we were a true married couple. I explained our problems getting my wife a social security card and therefore we did not have any joint accounts. Our marriage was in January, so not joint tax returns. Finally we showed recent photos of our trip across America to meet my daughter, son-in-law and new granddaughter. That did the trick. It was so easy that I was sure something was wrong. We were completely surprised and amazed at how easy and quick it was. A definite improvement over the application process.
