The CIS office in Portland is in the fashionable 'Pearl District' and looks brand new. The security guards in the entrance were reasonably friendly, and the receptionist had an Indian/Pakistani accent and was very nice as well. The waiting room is upstairs on the second floor, and the chairs were comfortable. Our appointment was for 1:00 pm, and at about 1:15 or so our 'officer' came out and called our names. He was very informal and friendly, and escorted us through the maze of hallways to his little office. He had what appeared to be our entire file on his desk. After brief 'ice-breaker' chatter, he proceeded to ask the standard questions, some of which were mandatory and some which were his choice. The mandatory questions were: are you a communist, or are you a terrorist? I found it ridiculous that they still have to ask if you're a communist! Then he asked one of us to tell our story from first meeting up to today. It didn't matter which one of us spoke, so I did. I was very real a... read complete review

We had a lot of problems receiving mail from USCIS during our AOS, so we came to the building with no Appointment Letter. We knew what our interview date and time was from checking our case progression on the USCIS website. The security guards were really nice, and told us to go check at one of the windows. She took some info from us and told us to wait in the waiting area. Moments later, an officer came in with a blank sheet of paper and told me to write down our names with the A#. Our appointment was actually scheduled for 10:40, so we just waited. The same officer came back right on time. She was extremely nice, which took me by surprise, since everyone said how the officers were usually polite but not overly friendly. She asked Paul some basic questions, asked how we met, asked what sort of evidence we brought with us, and even joked with us about how much of a hassle it was to get our appointment letter. We got complimented on our organisational skills ... read complete review

We arrived about 5 minutes before the scheduled interview time. After passing through security and putting our letter in the box outside the waiting room we sat down, thinking we would be waiting a long time, since the room was pretty busy.
In fact, about 10 minutes later my name was called and we were greeted by the IO. He was very friendly and led us to the room in which we would be interviewed. He asked me routine questions such as if I'd applied for resident status before and if I'd ever been involved in drug trafficking. He asked how we met and then looked through our documentation (we didn't really have much, just a rental agreement, renters' insurance documents and an invoice from our cat's vet with both our names on it) and then at our photos. He said our paperwork all looked fine and our application was approved, then told us about how long it would take for my green card to arrive and about lifting conditions after two years and applying for citizenship after 3... read complete review

Overall great experience, friendly interviewer - lasted 15 minutes.
Questions asked:
1. How did you meet?
- wanted us to go into detail, she wrote a page of notes while we were speaking.
2. When did you propose?
3. When did you enter the US... have you left since?
As well as questions already answered on the application. e.g. have you ever been arrested / are you a terrorist.
Success!
(recommend Everett's Bistro nearby for a celebratory lunch...)
