Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We arrived to our 11:15 appointment one hour early. We were immediately told that the office was behind schedule and that we'd have a "little wait". At approximtely 1:00 pm we went into the interview with a nice man who smiled and was cordial. We were asked simple questions to confirm name, dob and address on the application. We were sworn in. I was asked as to how we met, my wife and step-daughter were asked generic questions about whether they engaged in drug trafficking and human smuggling. The uscis officer didn't have our marriage license, my wife's birth certificate nor our 2012 income tax forms w/ W2, fortunately, we were prepared with extra copies of each and an original marriage certificate. We had previously submitted all of these things, but they were lost in the process. We had to show no photos nor provide any evidence of a continuing relationship. Our officer stated, " based on what I am seeing here, I am going to approve this application." The real time of the interview ... read complete review

The place was pretty easy to find--from the other reviews we were expecting something much different. The officers were very helpful while going through security and they were good at trying to lighten everyone up, since most of us were pretty nervous. Security is exactly like at an airport--be prepared to take off your shoes and belts.

Went into the interview waiting room, which was pretty empty. Went to our window, turned in our appointment letter and waited for maybe 20 mins. We were called back by a very nice woman who seemed to find my husband's jumpy nervousness pretty entertaining. She took us to her office, reminded us the interview was completely voluntary and that we could leave at any time, swore us in, and began with simple questions. She began with me (the USC): full name, DOB, SSN, address, time at address, etc. Then on to my husband, who was so nervous to do the interview in English that he messed up his birth year (made himself 15 lol) and our zip ... read complete review

Biometrics - Very Friendly Staff, Quick & Easy. In and out in an hour - tops.
Interview - The Window 8 Folks were very busy chatting with one another and seemed a bit put out to help us check-in. The same lady that did the Biometrics was in the waiting area checking for more of 'her' folks and told us all that it would be easy in the interview and not to worry -- just be normal and relax.

We got into the interview with a very nice man (name eludes me, but he is a big guy) and had a few seconds general chit chat as he went through the paperwork. There was some confusion on the Koseki-Tohon being valid as a Birth Certificate (it was, he just was not familiar) and we had a bit more chit-chat as that was worked through. He asked us a few basic questions, (where from, parents names, where entered US, ran through all the have you ever done X questions from the I-465. He then pulled out the stamp and marked the paper 'Approved'. Right before he gave us the form and... read complete review

Preparation is the key. Have everything ready to go at least one week prior to your interview. Do not let life get in the way. That being said... I must admit that I had misplaced the appointment form and was looking for it the night before. I though I had found it and it turned out to be the biometrics appt form. That form said our appt was for 11 am so that tme stuck in my head. Later when I found the correct appointment notice I failed to check the time and 11 am was stuck in my head. The actual appointment time was for 8 am!!! We were 3 hours late!!! Well, I decided than rather than call and reschedule or be told that we had abandoned the process that it would be better to show up. The two guards at security did not check the form closely or even look at it. Wed approached window #8 as instructed and the clerk there did not even glanced at it but simply put it on a pile and told us to wait for our names to be called. half an hour later we were called. The questions were... read complete review

Appointment was on 10:15. We arrived there a little before 10am and waited in the waiting room. We were called at around 10:50 and a nice lady officer invited us to her room. First she introduced herself and took our oath. Then we sat down and she asked my husband his for personal info and ID (he's the USC). Then she asked me for my info (name, date of birth, parents name etc, when I entered the US last time and where). Then she started asking me the questions from the I485 and on the first one there was a problem. On part 3 question number C you need to list organizations you were a member of, and I wasn't in any so I wrote "none", but I didn't notice that it included military and I did serve in the military and I did answer yes on the specific questions about the military and weapon training and even attached a letter explaining what I did. It was an honest mistake. So at the beginning she was kinda mean about it but she kept asking the questions and reached to the ones where I said... read complete review
