IR-5 Visa for Parents of a USC

We left the Marble Arch Holtel at 7:30am to walk to the Embassy. We got there at 7:45am and there was already a very large line waiting to get in, it was also raining...

We got to the first check point and had to show our interview appointment letter and our passports, we were then sent to Security Screening and had the backpack with our copies of everything x-rayed. We were then directed to Immigrant Visas. There was far more people going to the non-immigrant visas than were in our section.

We were given a number ticket 18407 (the numbers started at 18400) We then took a seat in the waiting hall, it was very busy even at 8:15am. Our appointment was for 8:30am so we knew we would have to wait. We sat there for about 50 mins and then our number was called.

We went up to the first window and the man explained that he would be checking that all our papers were in order and he would do our Fingerprin... read complete review

My interview was on 9th July. Appointment was for 9 30 but I got there at 8am via Gould's Pharmacy where I left my mobile. Got through security fine and was given ticket I861 - so I think there were 11 immigrant people before me. I had been in the embassy before to pick up a J visa a few years ago and it hadnt changed much. Was called up at about 9 30 to speak to the first guy. Nice British guy at window 1, he handed me back my x ray and took all my docs... passport, photos, birth cert + copy, police certificate + copy, I 134, tax returns, employer letter, pay stubs. He said everything looked in order but the co would have the final say. I paid for my visa and sat down with the courier form. I read the paper and waited a bit longer until i heard my number, was only about 40 minutes after i had seen the first guy. I was up at window 16 and it was the young friendly american guy. He was very friendly, made me swear to tell the truth and he just started asking in a friendly manner where w... read complete review

Appointment was at 9am and my fiance was there a total of 3 hours.

They took his nail clippers away as it was "sharp object." He tossed it. I told him not to worry I would buy him new nail clipper.

They asked him following questions.

How did you meet?
Which website did you meet on?
What are her family ties to Serbia? (to which he answered my father is)
Where does her mother's family come from?
Why aren't you settling in Britian?

Then she said that she would be happy to give him visa as soon as he gets document retranslated. Not sure what the exact issue was with his current translated- other then they need two docs from Croatia and both translated. I guess both translation sounded too similar. Hmmmm.... I don't know.

I was a bit worried as he was treated poorly in 2006 trying to get visitor visa (before he was UK citizen). But he said this time they were friendly and the woman i... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My appointment was at 8:30am and unlike all the people who seemed to arrive incredibly early, my husband and I only arrived just on time. He’d barely slept and my stomach had been in knots so it had been a difficult morning!

We found the embassy easily as I’d checked where it was after my medical exam and we joined a long but clearly marked queue for visa applicants. Several officials were checking those in the queue to make sure we didn’t have any electrical items, weren’t wearing any metal items (belts etc had to be removed) and that we had invitation letters. I had emailed the embassy to inform them my husband would be joining me and received a reply confirming he would be added to the ‘list’ for the day, but no-one seemed to check any list before they let him through! When we got through this queue, the invitation letter was checked yet again before we even stepped foot into the security booth. Our bags and we were x-rayed and then we went through. We fol... read complete review

My interview was scheduled for 10am, so i arrived just before 9 to be on the safe side. I was in the waiting area just after 9. I had read from a lot of people that I should bring a book, but to be honest, it was way to hard to concentrate with numbers being called out every 30 seconds!! So I gave up on the book. I had a long wait, cos I wasn't called to the first window until 10:45. I had to hand over:

2 passport photos
Passport
Birth Certificate (+ copy)
Police check (+copy)
I-134
2008 Tax Return
Employer Letter
Recent bank statement (showing stocks and their values)

I then had to give finger prints, and pay the visa fee at the window right beside mine. When I returned, I was given back my X-Ray and given a pink slip to fill in for the visa courier, and told to return to the waiting area.

My next wait was only for about half an hour, when I was then called up for my interview. I was as... read complete review
