It's funny how adrenaline/nerves can affect your memory. Normally I find it easy to recall details of events, but on this occasion I've had some trouble - consequently things may be slightly out of order, and a few things missed/altered.
My appointment was at 8.30am, but I went extra-early to make sure I was there in plenty of time. I dropped my things off at Gould's Pharmacy - they charge just £3 per item; I ended up paying £6 for my phone and my rucksack, when I should have just put the phone in the rucksack - and made my way to the Embassy, less than a minute down the road. There was virtually no queue, as it was barely 8 o'clock. I showed the guy my passport and interview letter, and he asked whether I had any electronics on me before pointing me to the Security building, where my stuff - paperwork, umbrella (I didn't need it, unlike yesterday) and a plastic bag they give you for your wallet, belt, and keys - was X-rayed. After passing through the metal detector I ... read complete review

I got to Gould's Pharmacy a couple of minutes before 8am and checked in my phone and had 2 passport pics done which was cheaper than I was expecting. Then walked to the Embassy as I wasn't sure how far away I was. Literally 5 mins or less. It was freezing outside and pouring with rain. I briefly considered leaving and coming back a little later as I was so early. Then decided to join the queue and see what they said because the weather was so bad and I really just wanted to get inside to defrost.
They didn't say anything and it did take 30mins to get thru the line and security. I got my ticket at 0835 and when and sat in the waiting room. I was expecting 1. to be waiting for a while before my number got called and 2. to be called to one of the windows 1-11. So I was a little taken aback when my number was called in 15mins and to one of the windows in the back section.
I'm not exactly sure at what point during this first part I was asked to go pay and then ... read complete review

I'll try a go at writing this review as told to me by my fiance, Tom.
The appointment was for 8am, he got there at 6:30am unintentionally, the cab showed early, no traffic, so arrived way early.
Goulds Pharmacy doesn't open til 7:30am, so he found a coffee shop, hung out for a bit, got ancy, walked to embassy, saw a line forming, walked back to Goulds, still not open, asked a guy in the coffee shop if he'd hold his phone and keys, lol, and told him he'd pay him the 5 pounds or whatever, guy said, okay, lol, but didn't want the money. So then he hurried back to the line in the pouring rain. One guy said "the Americans must be testing us, offering no shelter", lol, and offered to share his umbrella, lol.
A security women in full weather gear came through checking appointment letters and passports,in the pouring rain, Tom was all worried about his paperwork getting wet.
Then there was another check of passport n letter, then meta... read complete review

First you have to get through security! Make sure you don't have any electronic devices with you like mobiles or even car key fobs as you can't take them in. (I left my mobile in a backpack at left luggage at Kings Cross Station) You have to show your appointment letter and passport to a security guard then are sent into a little hut. In the hut, your bag and coat etc are all run through a scanner like at the airport and you walk through a metal detector. As I had a drink of water with me, I had to drink some of it in front of the guard to be able to take it in with me!
You then follow the path around the side of the building and go up some stairs to a reception desk. They will check your letter again and give you a number. You then take the stairs to your left and enter a huge room looking out over Grosvenor Square. Someone there will direct you to sit at the far end of the room, where you wait until your number is called out. I had a minor heart attack at this point a... read complete review
