We set off for London from Birmingham on Thursday. I had booked a nights stay at the Millenium Mayfair Hotel which is about 100 yards from the Embassy. Nice hotel but not cheap! We started our morning early so we could have a bite to eat before our 9am appointment. We got in the queue about 8.20 and made our way up to the visa section. Our number was I864 and the time on the sticker was 8.37. We walked in and sat and even though I had read that there would be tons of N numbers called I was still a little shocked by the number of them that came and went while we waited! We sat for about 2 hours when they called Johns number. We got the nice asian lady as window #1. It was VERY hard to hear her but we chatted a bit and I finally felt a little more at ease after having talked to her. She took the normal paper work, police certificates, I-134, birth certificates, and photos. Asked about the company I worked at because they were vendors for the Embassy as well. My day went like this:
Arrived in London the day before and stayed at the Milennium hotel, which is literally across the road, (you could see the American Embassy from our hotel window).
We scouted around after we got there, just to be sure I knew where I was going the next day.
Woke up at 6.30am after hardly any sleep, due to being full of a cold and not being able to breathe lol
Took a shower etc and left the hotel at 7.30am...a minute later I was at the Embassy and joined the queue of people that were already there....I estimate around 30 or so people were before me.
Make sure you have your passport and interview letter out and handy....and if you go in February..make sure to wrap up, because it was freezing and we were outside for an hour at least.

Our interview was issued on the 4th of january 2010 for the 4th of february 2010. We booked a room at the kensington rooms hotel for 3 nights for the price of £225 "breakfast" included. We were put in a quiet room so there wasnt much noise from the streets or rooms around us.
We took the train from Skipton to Leeds then to Kings Cross London Station (£176 super off peak return for 2 adults), then took the picadilly line underground 10 stops away to Gloucester Road. The hotel was only about a 10 minute walk away from the underground.
The morning before, we decided to take the bus to the embassy to see how long it would take to get there. The bus stop is right across from the hotel, and we took bus #74 to marble arch. The embassy is about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop. From there we walked down South Audley Street and found a nice tea room for breakfast about 2 minutes away on the left side. Arrived at 7:55 AM for a 8:00 AM interview. The queue starts from outside so its best to take an umbrella as we found out after being in the drizzle for 20 minutes. Once we reached the initial security they asked us to deposit our cell phones to a chemist a block away. Wasted another 2 pounds and 15 minutes in this process. Recommendation, leave all metal and electronics behind including your waist belt. Then secondary inspection (still outside) involved verifying the picture on the passport. The third inspection (inside) involved an xRay with *you guessed it) all metals and electronics off. Once cleared you went to the reception desk to get a paper token. Once a number was assigned we walked to the waiting hall and took a seat. This process took an entire hour.
At around 10:00 AM our number was finally called. The person validated our documents and asked us to fill a courier (pink) form for returning the passport if the visa is issued. This process took 10 minutes. He ... read complete review
