So, my interview was set for 9am Tuesday 2nd Feb 2010. I live miles away, so I decided to get a hotel that was close...ish to the embassy and grab a taxi their instead.
I got a night at the Kings cross travelodge Royal Scott (kings cross road). Not a place I would recommend, room was run down, no heating, pillow (yes they only give you one) was small. The food at the bar was cold and the portions were small.
Tuesday morning comes, taxi is booked for 8am, I arrive outside the embassy @ 8.20am, time for a quick smoke. 8.30 comes, I walk up-to the booth outside where you have to show your P4 letter and passport. Then, they ask you to remove everything from your pockets (keys, coins, wallet etc.) remove your watch and belt also and pop them in the clear bag they give you, and ask you to move forward and wait in line (luckily I was one of the first people there). Then a security guard asked you to come into a booth, just like at an airport you have to put your ... read complete review

We arrived about an hour before our 8:30am appointment. There was a que to show your documents and then a second que to enter the security booth. The process took about 45 minutes. We entered the building and recieved a number from a woman at a reception desk. When we arrived there was no line but when we left there was a que for numbers. We took a seat and were called to a window to show documentation. After a brief panic when she could not locate the medical results, and answering a few generic questions ( where do you work, what will you do in US, where will you live etc)we were told to go back and wait for Interviewer to call us. If your medical was done before your Interview date was assigned it will be in a different location from the rest of your file and they need to go get it. This took maybe 5 minutes. We were called to second window and asked a few questions. All of the questions were already answered in the documents she held in front of her and she made notes on file as we s... read complete review

We stood in line about an hour before our appointment time of 8.30am. We showed the letter and passports at the first checkpoint. Then at the second. We then went into the guard booth to have our stuff x-rayed and through metal detector. It wasn't too busy and all this took about 20 mins. We then went in to embassy and were given a number and told to wait. After around 40 mins we were called up to a window and the woman checked that they had all our documents and asked a few questions and kept saying she hated her job! We were given a pink slip to fill in for the courier to have my passport returned and told to wait again. After around 30 mins we were called to a different window. I swore an oath and was asked if I had ever been in trouble with the police or had problems with immigration. She asked us how we met and we talked to her a bit about our wedding and our children. All the while she was ticking boxes. She eventually ticked the last box and said my application was approved. She... read complete review

No major problems...everything ran pretty smoothly...just check your phone/mp3/keys into the chemist (they have lock up boxes there for embassy use)down the street before you get to security (not fun having to walk back in the rain in Prada heels!!!) didnt have to wait long...approx about 30/40 mins to each desk....
unfortunately i was missing co sponsor tax returns, so had to courier them in when i received them...no great hassle...just more expense and suspense!!!!

My interview was for 08:30 so I had to start the day pretty early to get the train. I have to admit, my nerves were pretty frayed the whole journey there. If anyone is wondering which underground station is best to walk from, I got off at Marble Arch and it was a simple matter of exiting out of the Park Lane exit and turning left. Took maybe 7 or 8 minutes to walk to the embassy from there.
Upon arrival at the embassy I joined a queue of maybe 12-15 people who were waiting to go through security. A friendly woman outside checked my visa appointment letter. Then a second woman checked it, and then I was into the security building which is very simple - just like airport security. Then it's a simple matter of following the signs and entering the embassy. At the front desk, another guy checked my visa appointment letter (make sure you have it handy!) and then gave me a number in 4 printed out sticky labels. He stuck them onto a plastic folder, make sure that you actually ta... read complete review
