Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Location: Seoul Consulate, South Korea

Experience: The process was very nice. From start to finish it took us about 2 hours. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. We arrived around 35min early and had to wait for the doors to open at 7:30am. They are sticklers for opening up shop on time.

Arriving Early: Getting to the Embassy early is always a good thing. It helps you calm down and think a little. We arrived around 35 min early and as a result we were the first to be interviewed. For us being early paid off as the line grew quickly after around 7:10am with as many as 20 to 30 people waiting by 7:30am

Bathroom Access: In short, there is none until the Embassy opens at 7:30am. Local neighborhood amenities are quite limited around the Embassy as well. So, plan accordingly. My wife was so nervous about the interview that she went looking for one right after arriving only to find there was no bathroom access until it op... read complete review

Review Topic: General Review

Interview began at 8am, and involved submitting many forms, all confirmed as valid. At the interview, the questions were quite basic, how we met, etc. One question was about the reason for being denied entry on a visa waiver a year ago in Minneapolis. At that time, I had a valid visa waiver, a valid airline ticket home before the end date of the visa waiver, and had already been granted entry a few weeks before in Seattle. I told the agent that I had no idea for the denial. She apologized. She granted the green card visa. We are very happy. I expect to immigrate at the end of November 2017

Areum went to the appointment, which was scheduled for 0830, by herself because I was in the U.S. She arrived at 0745 and went to get her papers checked by the clerk. She was quickly informed that the form she was given at the police station was not correct. So she left quickly and retrieved the correct one. When she got back, she sat down with the many other people waiting. After a couple of hours, she was called for the interview. They asked the few very standard questions like where/when did you meet him, how did he propose, about her previous visits to the U.S. to see my family and me, and when/where we planned to marry. They also reviewed her "proof" of our relationship (photos and engagement ring) at this time. I suppose this was because I was not in attendance with her, but then they soon told her that she was approved and she would get her visa within five days! We are very excited and will soon book her flight to the U.S. The South Korean embassy was amazing. Areum ... read complete review

Fiancee had an appoint scheduled for 9am. She got there 15 minutes early and said there was an incredibly long line. She ended up waiting 3 hours to get in for her interview. Apparently there were a lot of people that weren't well prepared. Our documents were well organized with a cover letter and tabs to find specific items easily. The interview itself only took about 3 minutes. She was asked a few questions in English, nothing we didn't expect: how did you meet, what does he do, what are your plans in the US, etc. She was never asked if she wanted to do the interview in Korean or English so just be prepared to do it in English if you have to. Aside from the very long wait time she said the interview was very quick and friendly. They told her she was approved at the end of the interview and would receive her passport with the visa within 5 days.

We arrived about 1 hour early for the appointment. After entering the Embassy a quick check of our documents was done Interview letter, DS 260 receipt etc.., the staff then placed one photo face down on the passports with a paperclip. We were also asked to fill out the courier slip for Passport/Packet delivery. We were then sent to another floor to wait for the names to be called. When the names were called the VISA preparer asked for our documents. She only did the verification of originals, she did not want the copies of previous documents which included the AOS. She did not look at the additional Proof of relationship that was included. We were then instructed to sit down and wait for the biometrics and interview. There were only 2 Interviewers for all applicants (business employee, students, fiancée, spouses, children) The wait was about 1 hour and 45 minutes for the interview to take place. Interview took about 10 minutes and only consisted of about 4-5 questions. At the begin... read complete review
