Had a great experience overall at the US Auckland Consulate. Probably the easiest part of the immigration process this far. The communication was really good from the embassy. On the first packet, there is a number and an email that you can communicate with "B" on. "B" handles the IV and K1 process at the consulate. I called her once to clarify something and she was very warm, clear and helpful.

TIP: Apply for a (FULL/Clean Slate Act does not apply) Ministry of Justice Criminal Records check once you get NOA2, it took me over 4 weeks to receive mine. I had to call the MoJ and explain my circumstances to get it. They MoJ a high case load and low staffing as it was the NZ summer holiday period. They were kind enough to jump me ahead of the queue because it was over 4 weeks and I required it urgently.

Interview Day: Found the Citi building easily. Caught the elevator which opens up directly to a zig zag line/queue full of people waiting to enter the consulat... read complete review

A relatively straightforward process. Arrived 20 minutes early and was allowed straight in. I had a jacket and a laptop bag with my documents. You leave everything in a small locker, but anything bigger than a small backpack/bag would be too big. Basically take a bag for your documents, leave everything else behind.

Everyone was polite and friendly, both to me and the other people there. After waiting 30 minutes I was called to a window and we started to go through my documents with a Kiwi woman. I had sent all originals but had duplicates ready. They asked for my original police certificate which threw me as I was certain I had sent it in with my original package. Eventually it was found in my oackage. We updated some financial information and took fingerprints. I then sat down again, and then was called and spoke to the consular officer who was American. I had to swear an oath that the information was correct and that was about it. They said that everything seemed fine... read complete review

My appointment was scheduled for 9am, I arrived a few minutes early and was taken through security and told to wait till window 5 was free. I waited 2 minutes and was waved up to the window by B, who is the loveliest lady! It was good to finally put a face to the name! She ran through all my paperwork and asked a few questions about my future address in the U.S. and when do I plan on traveling. I had already booked my flights to save spending a lot on them, (luckily it all went well and I got approved) After talking with B for a while I paid the fee and then sat down and waited for my name to be called for an interview. It was really busy and I ended up waiting 2hours, luckily there was another girl my age there applying for a summer camp visa so we chatted for most of the time. Once my name was called the guy said my paperwork was very organized and asked how my fiancé and I met, I told him and that's all he asked before taking my fingerprints and making me do an oath saying my paper... read complete review

Interview was today, I was so nervous beforehand that I made myself physically sick. I was terrified I would have missed out one critical piece of paperwork that would have me denied a visa.

Well, my appointment was at 9:30am. I arrived just before 9. Going through security, I had to get my bag scanned, turn cellphone off (and my kindle - hint, take physical reading material!) and locked away. Security let me in and directed me to window 5 (the only window for immigrant visas)

At window 5, I met B who is as lovely in person as she is on the phone and by email (I'd had to communicate with them a LOT!).

B checked my paperwork, requesting originals of my marriage certificate, passports, and a courier bag. I made the mistake of taking a NON-signature required bag. Remember to get the signature required one if you're not picking it up! Not a huge problem though, B advised me to go downstairs and get a new courier bag (NZ post is on the ground fl... read complete review

Appointment was 9.30am December 30th I arrived a little after 9am went through security took a seat waited maybe 10 minutes went to window 5 rang the bell and B greeted me with a warm smile. She could see I was nervous so told me to take deep breaths relax and explained its just a formality and to keep telling myself this is all just paper work, shes a very lovely lady makes you feel very welcome. My heart sunk when she asked for my fiances tax return as he only started working back in September but they had a letter from his employment and also a pay stub. I explained he had been living in Tennessee for the last two years had a job that fell through not long after he got there and up until September was working for cash. She said it was up to the interviewer as to what or if there would be anymore evidence required. I proceeded to window 4 where i paid my visa fee feeling a little nervous about my interview, after sitting for about half an hour i was called to window 3. The first ques... read complete review
