Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Hello everyone!

Well, this VJ site helped me so much when I went through my visa process so here's my review from my interview at the Embassy in Tokyo, hope this helps!!

I arrived at the Embassy about an hour prior to my appointment time which was I believe at 9:00am. There was no line to get inside the Embassy, just an easy security check point where they take your cellphone.

There were a couple of people already inside, but not too many.

Remember this: be prepared to wait for an adequate amount of time.
Even though there are TVs to watch, it might be a good idea to bring a book to keep you occupied.

They asked me to come to the window three times total;

1. to submit all the paperwork I brought. - then wait.
2. to provide finger prints. - then wait.
3. to actually have an interview through glass window, standing.

At the interview, the interviewer basica... read complete review

Our appointment was at 8:30AM. When we arrived, we waited about 5 minutes before we were called to the window by the clerk who reviewed all the paperwork we submitted to NVC. She was very helpful and gave us the opportunity to revise some of the information we input on our DS-230. She gave my wife the option to change her name on the DS-230 from WifeFirstName HusbandLastName to WifeFirstname WifeLastName HusbandLastName. In short, she notified us that my wife can use her Japanese Last Name as her middle name. Clerk was also nice enough to explain everything to her in Japanese. After all our paperwork was in order, we waited for another few minutes to wait for others to get done with their interviews. When it was time for us, we were asked two questions:

1) If we swear to tell the truth?
2) How long have we been married?

Next thing we know the interviewer tells us the visa is approved and should be coming into our mail within a week. We alway... read complete review

Went WAY too early (about an hour and a half) and was asked to come back later. Upon rearrival, process was quick and the interview was easy. All the questions were asked in Japanese and took no more than a few minutes. Got approved for visa on the spot!

We arrived at the US Embassy in Tokyo around 8:30 on a Tuesday morning (very inconvienent as we took off of work and stayed in a hotel, but had little choice in the matter) for the interview. Despite some worry about having the correct documents, the embassy staff was very friendly and helpful. The interview itself took about three to five minutes and was done through the window with my wife and a single embassy employee.

Our visa arrived the *next morning* in Nagoya, which was impressive to say the least. It looks like all the document preparation and research paid off!
