Naha consulate took very good care of my wife during the interview. On time appointment, and very polite. Individual that handled the interview also saw us for our marriage paperwork. Nice small town feel for such an extensive process. Interview was conducted in Japanese, and took only a few minutes.
I am pleased that amid all the political crap going on that this process and the people seemed to care a little. Good luck to all, on your journey, as ours has only begun.

Writing this review on behalf of my husband.
So he got there around 7:30-7:50ish and was number 12 in line out of 20ppl. They handed him the clear folder to put his documents in(new tax returns, updated I-864 and recent paystubs from my job),Letterpack, passport, passport photos, fingerprints, and then he had to wait an hour till he was called for his interview. The CO according to my husband never smiled, and didn't give my husband a choice if he wanted to converse in English or Japanese, so it was entirely in English.
He just asked basic questions:
How did we meet?
Where did my husband go to school?
What work am I doing right now?
And after that he said "congratulations you're approved!"
It also seems that maybe we didn't have to hand in the recent tax returns + I-864 cause even though they took the tax returns they said that co-sponsors already qualified looking at their history for the poverty guideline to support him so they didn't ... read complete review

I am the applicant (UK citizen, CR-1), I live in Japan with my husband.
Our interview was for 8.30, but we arrived at the embassy at 7.30, we were second in the queue, but by 8 am there were at least 20 people behind us. We were done by 9.30, so I think getting there early is a good idea.
First the embassy staff will give you a clear file where you put any additional documents in order. For us this was just photos, passport, tax returns for the new tax year, letter pack 500 (you DO still need this!) and medical. They weren't interested in seeing any additional documents.
After that they returned my X-ray, birth certificate and marriage certificate, and then we waited again. After some time I was called up for fingerprints.
Then came the interview: it was very relaxed and the consular officer was very nice, he asked how we met, when we got married and if I'd met my husband's family. It was like a conversation though not like a formal interview. It was painle... read complete review

I'm the petitioner, and I'm in the US. I wasn't actually there.
My fiance (Akiko) said the interview went great.
Appointment at 9am, she got there around 8 and was the number 20 waiting position.
They called a few positions out of order first, including hers, "number 2, number 9, number 10, number 20, etc."
She had maybe a 10 min interview and got verbal approval. They had already looked thru all the documents.
She said it was really easy.
We were worried about finances, had to have my dad as sponsor, but it seems like it was no big deal. Co-sponsors are cool in Tokyo. yay! and staff were friendly.

I'll echo what everyone else has said about the US Embassy in Tokyo and say that it was a quick and painless endeavor for a K-1 visa interview. My fiancee arrived right when she was scheduled to enter and between various submissions of paperwork and the eventual interview, she was in and out within 90 minutes. The consular officer was stone faced when asking the questions, but he didn't throw any curve balls. After my fiancee answered the fourth question he congratulated her on passing the interview and told her that the passport with the visa included would arrive at her home in a week. It actually arrived four days later, so even that was better than expected!
