Approved! IR-1 Interview on 29th Jan 2013.
Before I start to share my experience, I would like to thank each and every VJ Member for their valuable advice and information. I have followed the path of many here and succeeded.
6:30 am
Reached the gates of consulate. There were 2 lines; one for Immigrant Visa applicants and another for non-immigrant visa applicants. There were about 25 people in front of me. We were constantly being reminded by VFS guys to keep our Interview Appointment letter in hand and not to carry any electronic equipment.
Around 6:50 am
They started to let us (immigrant queue) through the main gates into the front yard of the consulate. The first 20 got to sit on the waiting chairs until they let us in for Security Checks.
7:10 am

Hi Guys!
I had my K1 visa interview today at the mumbai consulate...
I reached there at about 6.30 am and there were already 2 lines formed viz immigrant and non immigrant lines. there were about 35 people already in front of me. we were told to keep our passport and appointment letters ready. we were let in at about 7...went through security check after that and then the VFS staff put stickers on my appointment letter.
later we were all seated and we had to wait for the indian officers to call us one by one and have us submit our documents viz passport, medical record,PCC,ds 156, 156k,ds230, 3 photographs, DD,birth certificate photocopy,fiances 2011 tax returns and 2012 w2, form I-134. they also took our finger prints.
after that i had to wait for my turn to be interviewed by the american officer. I had to wait for almost 3 and a half hours to get my turn. i went for my interview at 11.15 am.My interview was over in 8-10 mins. My Interviewer was an elderl... read complete review

My wife had her interview on 8th Jan in Mumbai.Interview was good. She went in at around 7 and was out by 8.15! Only some basic questions regarding my income and few wedding pictures. Apparently, they are very interested in looking at the saat phere / fire ceremony pictures.
She collected her passport with visa on 17 Jan, 6 working days after her interview, from the Bangalore VFS center.

My USA Immigrant Visa Interview experience:
I reached the Mumbai US Consulate by 0600 AM. We were made to stand in the queue at about 0630 am.There were two ques one for the Immigrant and the other for the No-Immigrant Visas. We were asked to hold on to the Interview appointment letter and passport.Later at about 0700 AM we were allowed inside into the security check area, where we were asked to put all the bags, files, watches and also the sweaters and jackets into a plastic basket which they gave for a security scanning. After the security check we were sent to a counter, where the lady asked for the language in which we would like to be interviewed and stuck two stickers (token numbers) on the appointment letter. This was done by 0716hrs (the time gets printed on the token)

Got there at 6.15. The crowd had already split into Immigration and Non-immigration queues. My wife was with me (she is visiting me). Already there were about 30 people in front of me waiting. The security guys were yelling out instructions in Hindi to keep the interview letter handy, They were also having spouses or people accompanying the candidate to stay out of the line. and not to carry in any electronic or media devices. So no CDs, Cellphones. Flash drives etc or allowed. I Carried a Whole Foods bag with all my files and stuff and did not have problems at security.
You can carry eatables and water etc but take note that one has to consume a part of the food in front of the security personnel. There is a small cafe kiosk in the waiting area anyway selling water, juices or snacks. My wife wished me all the best and went to the coffee shop of the Trident hotel ( right opposite the embassy) to wait and have something to drink.
