Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Waiting time was a bit boring but the whole experience was bearable.
The interview was about 12-13 minutes altogether. The consul was friendly, no serious porblems, no photos, no spainish inquisition (nobody expects the Spaininsh Inquisition).
The questions were all very simple; how old, how long married, how many times married, how many children, are they coming with, your're approved, we'll send it in the mail in about two weeks.

The day started good. After a short night I got up at 3am. No, I don't have a long way to go to Frankfurt. Just one hour. But I think it is necessary that you prepare yourself very good. Like for any other important appointment.

Arriving at the consulate at 6.45 I saw already a small line of maybe 20 people or so. Even they say the parking space is limited I found a parking space close to the entrance and joined the line. (Don't expect to find a parking space there if your appointment is after 8am)
And don't use the parking lot on the consulate ground itself. It is for employees and I am sure they don't hesitate to tow your car away.

At 7.13am a man made an announcement that people with non-immigrant visas with appointments at 8.30am or later should go to have a walk or to eat something and that they should be there 5 minutes before their appointment time. The appointment time is for the time you have to be in front of the consulate, not inside. He ... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Had my interview at 7.30 and arrived shortly after 7. Waited for 25 minutes and was the first person to receive a number. Around 8 I was called to window 23 to turn in my photo, passport, and DS-230. Received an envelope that needed to be stamped.
30 minutes later, I was called to window 20 for a document check. The lady went over the DS-230 with me and answered some questions. She looked through the other forms and took back the stamped envelope. She asked if I had already gone to the medical. When I denied ,she made sure that I would get an early interview so that I had time to visit the doctor the same day.
After another 30 minutes, I was called again to have my interview with the consular officer at window 18. He was extremely nice even though I had problems understanding him at first through the intercom. He fingerprinted me, and asked how I had met my husband. He also asked where we got married. I then had to take the oath. Finally, he went over the I-864s with me, ... read complete review

My interview was scheduled for 7:30. I was there only a bit early but once I was through the security check it was close to 8 o'clock. I did not have to wait too long for the first two windows. The only disappointing moments were that I needed to take another picture since I was wearing glasses. The lady said for my visa I need pictures without glasses even though I always wear them. I told her for future applicants they should put it in the instructions. At the second window I also found out that the doctor from Leipzig did not send my medical results to the consulate even thought the examination was January 31st. (Calling the office in the afternoon, I found out that she had collected papers from various applicants to send them in at one time. That was done this week. I really hope so.)
For the 3rd window I had to wait more than 2 hours since the consular went to a lunch break what I assumed. He was very nice though and the interview was over really fast.

I was sooo worried before the interview.... NO NEED. Just bring some time and patience... and follow the guidelines and example forms on this page - all will be good!

Our appointment was 8:00 am. We were at the embassy at 7:30 am and there were more than 50 people at the gate waiting in line. We were called in a second line because my finance was with me, called again in the very front because Henry baby was with us. You present your invitation, passport and visa fee payment slip and receive a waiting number.

The check in is like at the airport, don't bring anything you don't really need.

From there we went to the waiting hall. It is build for 300 people and looks more like a train station with about 40 windows and chairs in lines in front of the windows. First call was to window 23, hand out your passport, one passport photo, visa fee payment slip and receive an envelope where you have to put a Euro 3.50 stamp on and your own address. The p... read complete review
