Making the move to the United States is a major step in our lives. Therefore, I wrote this little story to help you prepare for _your_ interview, but also to serve as a memento for myself. Hence, it's a bit longer than some other accounts on VisaJourney.com. I hope that you still find it worth the read.

PLANNING MY FRANKFURT TRIP

The Frankfurt Consulate General is in charge of all immigration visa cases in Germany.

It so happens that, of all the medical clinics sanctioned by the Consulate, the one in Frankfurt is the closest to my former home town.

Getting there via Germany's high-speed train, ICE, takes about two hours. Hence, I decided to combine both the medical exam and the visa interview into a single trip.

I stayed in Frankfurt for two nights. The first day was just for traveling. On the second day, I visited the clinic as a walk-in. On the third day, I went to my interview in the morning, and retu... read complete review

Everybody was very friendly except the man doing the actual interview! I was glad when it was finally over!
Parking, security and waiting was all easy going and doesn't need explaining.

My appointment time was 8:30. I arrived around 8:20 and got into the "Other Services" line (the one on the right). After checking in, I had to go through a security check (you are allowed to bring food and beverages in as long as they are not in glass bottles) and then entered the waiting room, where I had to wait in the far right corner. After about fifteen minutes, a nice German lady called me to the first window and collected my passport and photos. I then had to sit down again. After another ten minutes I was called to another window, and a German guy went through my papers with me. He explained the procedures for the K1 visa to me (like you have to get married within 90 days) and showed me a sample of the sealed envelope and medical that I would receive after the visa has been issued. I was then to sit down again. I then waited for another hour until I was called for the final interview. This time I talked to an American consular officer in English. At first he was not very friend... read complete review

Most importantly, my visa got approved (yay...). The experience was somewhat mixed, therefore I give only 3 stars...

My appointment was at 9.15am, so after finding a parking spot directly on the other side of the street, I arrived at the gate a little before 9am. I went to the window, was checked on the list and got my waiting number and was sent to security. As instructed, I did not bring any electronic items, left everything in the car except for my briefcase containing all the documents and a book for the waiting time. The security people were friendly, but thorough, I couldn't even bring my keys in there with me, they were deposited in the security booth.

Then I proceeded to the consulate building - it is basically a big hall with 299 seats (so it says on the wall...) and 22 windows on three sides of the wall, plus a vending machine and a passport photo booth on the 4th wall, with flags of the 50 states hanging from the big columns. ALl the consular ... read complete review
