Everything went smoothly for us. My fiancé was there with me for the interview and the only questions we were asked were about how we met and where we are going to live. Seemed more like small talk then an 'interview'.
To give you an idea of what to expect, here is how it went for us:
Step 1: We stood in line outside the Consulate until it was our turn to walk up to the window. There we got our number. Then we walked over to the nice officer who gives out plastic bags for loose items (wallet, belt, watch) and from there moved on into the first building where we went through security. After that we exited the first building and walked over to the next building.
Step 2: We entered the second building and showed our number to the lady at the desk. She sent us to the end of the hall to window 22. Here, we got an info sheet about getting a social security card, a pamphlet about domestic violence and our DHL receipt. After that, we took a seat and waited for our turn at window 21 or 20.
Step 3: At window 21 or 20, we talked to someone who makes sure all the paperwork is in order...or at least that's what it was for us. The lady just said "Looks like we have everything we need from you." Then we had to sit back down and wait for our turn to talk to an American immigration officer.
Step 4: At the next window, we talked to the actual immigration officer. I'd say this part is the actual interview. We were asked two questions and told that my K1 is approved. After that we walked back out the way we came.
All in all, this process took 3 hours - I think we only spent 30 minutes talking to the staff, the rest of the time we just sat around and waited for our number to be called.
