My husband said that the embassy was quite friendly and humble, they answered his questions as best as they could. They do however try to find a missing document or try whatever possible to find something on you. The reason for that is that when you come back to the U.S they do not want you to get stopped and have something missing where that officer sends you back. They explained to you that they want to ensure that you get back home. Overall the embassy was a great experience even when answering our questions.

My husband had his interview this morning and it was very quick. I assumed he would be there much longer, but his interview time was 8:30 a.m. and he called me at 8:51 a.m. telling me he was approved. First he went to one window where they took his fingerprints and collected the original versions of some documents (police clearance certificate, marriage certificate, his birth certificate, and my previous divorce certificate). Then he went to another window where he was interviewed by a woman he said was very nice. The interview was more like a conversation than a list of direct questions. She asked if his name was Elmer and if his wife's name was Courtney. She asked him how we met, what he did in El Salvador, what he studied at the university, if was going to study in the U.S., how long we have been married, if my family traveled to El Salvador for the wedding, when he proposed to me, what I do for a job in the U.S., what I studied at the university, where my family is from and that's ... read complete review

Unfortunately for me.. the experience we've had isn't the greatest. My husband went to interview and the officer requested additional information that the NVC was suppose to have mailed them. I've emailed them and whoever answers the emails at the Consulate isn't the smartest person. Their grammar is terrible which I feel as if I'm speaking to school kids and to top it off... asking them a question and expecting them to answer your question without peeing around a bush is like asking for a miracle. Very unprofessional people who are seriously making my country (US) look bad.

The U.S Consulate in El Salvador were very quick in processing my parent's cases. They have a website where you choose your passport pick-up location, select your preferred interview date and time, and file and send the IV application.
They quickly send you packet 3 and 4 via email and accept packet 3 electronically to move things faster but ask that you also send it in physically (via cargo express) for their records. The line outside is very long and you cannot take any mobile phones inside but once inside the consulate officers (they have 4 consulate officers) call up people to their window and the interview is very brief (for IR-5 cases) and painless.... for my spouse's K1 fiance visa 5 years ago it was a totally different story but for my parents' IR-5 is super quick and painless.
The officers are courteous and professional.

The Interview went well. My husband was the only one allowed in I went as support. He did say that they asked him for paperwork and sat down waiting to be called. He did mention the wait was longer then the actual interview. He had a copy of almost any document that they could ask for he did say the officer asked to see the following documentation:
1.) Pardon - Approval
2.) Child Birth Certificate
3.) Marriage License
The interview lasted around 2 minutes with 6 questions the waiting was about an hour and a half. He was approved and was given a white slip on instructions to pick up his Visa. He mentioned that everyone was very nice and treated him with respect. Tip - we got a plus as we did our 2-16 taxes before we left so they were impressed that we brought a copy with us as well as an updated Affidavit of Spousal support.
