My fiance went by himself to the interview......I have an 8 year old daughter in school, and my fiance and I have a one year old daughter, who was actually born in CR while I was living there in Costa Rica with him. I recently came back in late october to the US, and saw no reason to go to the interview. I had called the embassy to make sure I did not have to go, and they said, that if I was really needed, they would reschedule his interview, and ask me to fly out......
He got there at 12 noon, as they told him to. He says when they first called him, they asked him to write MY name and DOB on a paper?, then they only asked for his DS156, and affadavit of support. He then waited inside with the other couples, when they finally called him up a second time, they asked him where he has worked before, what he might work in in the US. And if he speaks english (he does NOT) But I speak spanish..Also they asked why I was not at the interview, and he told them why. He said they ju... read complete review

The "Good" - Shirley's visa was approved!
The "Bad" - The interview was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 27 at noon, so I booked a flight down to San Jose on Sunday, Oct 25, with plans of bring Shirley back with me (I didn't book a round trip, since we weren't sure how long the visa would take after approval). When I got home from work the previous Friday (Oct 23), I had a voicemail from the consulate advising that they had rescheduled the interview for Wednesday, Nov 5. What?!?! Of course, the consulate was already closed for the week, so I had no idea why or what this meant. I flew down on Sunday and called the consulate first thing Monday morning. They advised that the consular had to go out of town unexpectedly, which cause a bottleneck at the consulate and they were pushing out all appointments. After explaining that I had flown down for the interview and had to return home before Nov 5th, they agreed to schedule us for Friday, Oct 30. (phew! at least I c... read complete review

I won't repeat what everyone has already said about how friendly and helpful everyone is at the embassy--it couldn't be better--so will focus on what you can do to make things a little bit better and the specific questions they asked.
As to making it a little bit better, arrive early. Our appointment was for 12:15 and we were there about 20 minutes early and there were 6 couples ahead of us--you have to rememebr it is a small country so there will never be zillions ahead of you, but being at the head of the line is always better. There were maybe 4 - 5 couples behind us. At any rate, they take people in the order they arrive, and not by their scheduled appointment time, so if you arrive earlier, you will finish earlier.
The questions were easy:
How did you meet?
Where did you meet??
What was the date??
How many times have you seen each other?? Where?? When??
Do you have kids?? ... read complete review

Our interview was scheduled for 12 and we arrived at 1150 (our goal was 1130 but we are late for everything I swear we will even be late for our own wedding). Another taxi pulled up behind us so we quickly walked up the steps so that we wouldn't be behind someone else. First at the door was they typical what's your name, then he asked to see our medical envelope to see if it was sealed and let us in. We dropped off our cell phones and went through metal detectors (so leave the scissors cameras and other obvious things behind, some guy actually had his scissors taken from him... I mean who bring scissors to a visa interview? I mean what was he going to so offer free hair cuts or even better shank someone? What was I talking about? Oh..) So after we passed through the metal detector we came out into the area took a number that the lady handed us and stood outside the door that leads to the AC building for about 3 min, we get called in and take a seat and within 3 mins are called up to th... read complete review

We spent the evening, before our interview, ironing our interview clothes, signing our papers, and making sure we did not forget anything. I made two packets, one original, the other a copy, just in case one of our bags was lost or stolen on our trip; Can’t be too careful after all the effort we both put in to getting this far in the process.
Our day, Monday, August 22nd, started off with a 5.5 hour bus ride at 3:30am from Tamarindo. Luckily we were the first on the bus and were able to get the back seat with plenty of leg room and a place for our bags. Antonio slept while I worried for the both of us about how the day may very well seal our fate.
We arrived at the San Jose central bus station at about 9am, walked around a little bit, then took a taxi to the consulate about 20 minutes away. We were greeted by a very nice security guard that asked us what time our appointment was. We smiled and said proudly, 12pm and the guard told us to return at 11:30am to g... read complete review
