Review Topic: K1 Visa

Our interview was scheduled for 12 and we arrived at 1150 (our goal was 1130 but we are late for everything I swear we will even be late for our own wedding). Another taxi pulled up behind us so we quickly walked up the steps so that we wouldn't be behind someone else. First at the door was they typical what's your name, then he asked to see our medical envelope to see if it was sealed and let us in. We dropped off our cell phones and went through metal detectors (so leave the scissors cameras and other obvious things behind, some guy actually had his scissors taken from him... I mean who bring scissors to a visa interview? I mean what was he going to so offer free hair cuts or even better shank someone? What was I talking about? Oh..) So after we passed through the metal detector we came out into the area took a number that the lady handed us and stood outside the door that leads to the AC building for about 3 min, we get called in and take a seat and within 3 mins are called up to the window (things were seriously moving faster than the visitors visa line that took us 3 hours to go though just to be denied) The guy asked us for our packet 3 then asked us for a second copy of a few things (which i was really happy we were paranoid and brought more than one copy of everything), then handed it back to us saying the "all blanks have to have something in them if it is N/A then put that and they want to know what date you intend on entering and how long you plan on staying we put that he was leaving a week from then and staying permanently. he then asked for our medical paperwork and Grevins passport and handed us back the checklist thing and told us we would need that for POE as well as Grevin's chest x-ray results. Then we went through the song and dance of the other paper work packet 3 asks you to bring and hit a small snag about the police cert. Grevin got his police cert in Quepos and he asked them "are you sure this is what I need?" they said "si si si" and sent him about his way... problem was it said "For national use" instead of "for international use" they guy at the embassy said he wasnt sure if that was a problem or not so he went and asked another lady then said they would take it. javascript:emoticon('') So we were then asked for the I-134 and the supporting evidence I handed him my I-134, letter from employer, last years taxes and W2's then made a joke about how this wasn't the important one since I am still in school and only work part time. He laughed and asked for our co-sponsors I-134 and supporting evidence. He walked away and took the paper work over to his co-worker and had her proof his stuff (I think he was new or something)he then asked us a few questions about our relationship how we met, how often did we see each other, then handed us a receipt to go pay. We went to the pay window but she was on lunch until 1 so we sat and waited and watched animal planet. When she got there we paid the $350 and took the receipt back to the guy and he told us to have a seat. We started to get a little nervous because the two people behind us were called up before us to scan their finger prints (but we found out it was because the guy was new and was just double checking everything). So they called Grevin up to scan his fingerprints then we sat back down and waited for about 10 min. After waiting and stressing we were finally called up to the other window for the actual interview. The lady had Grevin raise his right hand and swear he was telling the truth then had him sign his draft paperwork. She then asked us about our relationship and how we met we joked with her about how I had asked him out first and we talked for over 5 hours on our first date. She complimented us on our "cute story we have for the kids" then asked why I had come down to Costa Rica in the first place. She asked what language we speak with each other and we said English but I was trying to learn Spanish for his family. she then smiles a big smile and said "well everything looks good to me you are approved and you can pick up your passport with the visa on Monday at 3pm" javascript:emoticon('') We smiled and thanked her and walked calmly out of the building to where we jumped and started hugging and celebrating!! WOOHOOO!! So happy it is behind us!!! We went that night and bought Grevin's plane ticket for Friday Sept 9th!!! We are so glad that the hard part is over and from now on while waiting on the paperwork we can wait together! Now time to get down to this wedding planning!!! All in all the people at the embassy were so so nice and really helped put us at ease! Good luck everybody else!!
