Easy and straight forward.
Yesterday (1/7/13) we had our interview or rather my wife's interview.
The letter from NVC informed us that our appointment was at 12:30, but my wife received an email from the consulate ensuring that we brought some additional information and said the appointment was at noon, so we showed up at 1140 to be safe. Ushered right in to the outside waiting area, there were 4 people ahead of us (one woman(alone), one couple, 2 minors). We waited about 45 minutes for the first interview. With an older lady, very nice. She basically got all the paperwork in order, she did ask where/how we met and a couple of other generic questions. Nothing difficult at all. Then we waited another hour and half or so. I think part of the problem is that we were there during lunch time (as the second interviewer wasn't even there most of the time).
The second interview went pretty easy as well. First you scan your finger prints, swear and sign the application and ... read complete review

Easy...The Embassy called us several times at our home (Moravia) the morning of the interview. We arrived to the Embassy at 11:15 a.m. and they were calling my wife before we entered the building. Upon entry, we were sent directly to the interview window without waiting a minute. All of the questions were in spanish, as my wife does not speak english. My wife was asked some pretty simple questions: Where did we meet; How did we meet; How many times had I visited and Where do I live. We were then asked to provide evidence of an on-going relationship. We submitted an entire photo album full of pictures (I travel to CR every three months). In addition, I submitted a years worth of phone records from my wireless company. I was asked to submit my most recent tax returns. My wife was sent to another window for digital fingerprints. We were then told to come back at 1:00 p.m. for a follow-up interview. We returned at 12:45 p.m. and maybe waited 10 minutes before being sent to another window ... read complete review

We arrived at noon and had our initial meeting to go over the paper work. This took about 30 minutes and we had to give the DS-156,230 I-34 and financial evidence etc. They verified we had all of our paperwork in order and asked us to sit down and wait until 1:00 so we could pay the fee. We paid and waited until almost 3:30 or 4:00 until the official interview. We were the last 2 people in the embassy waiting room and we were really nervous. The actual interview was so quick that we couldn't believe we had waited this long for it! They asked us how we met etc. but my fiancee had done such a good job and provided so much detail that there wasn't a whole lot left to ask. The consulate told us that our visa was approved and we could come back and pick it up on Monday. It might have been easier since we have a daughter and she was there with us. Our daughter is a US citizen so they really had no reason to deny mom access to the US.
I am happy that we made it through this an... read complete review

So, where to start... My fiance had his interview yesterday and was approved!!!! I was extremely worried/paranoid that we would be denied and I wanted to do everything possible to make sure that we weren't so I flew down to Costa Rica to go to the interview with him.
We arrived at the embassy slightly before 12 and we were let in immediately. We took our number and sat down outside and as soon as we sat down a man came and told us to go take a seat inside. We were the 4th ticket for interviews. We were called and went up to our window with a nice woman who talked with us and looked over all our paperwork and then gave back to us the photos, proof of ongoing relationship, my tax returns for 2010 and 2009 (they kept 2011), and some other stuff... I had been trying to move things along and get everything done ahead of time so I had paid the k1 MRV fee online, this caused a bit of a commotion and I was told that they don't accept that form of payment and that it said i... read complete review

Everything went very smoothly! Thank heavens for Costa Rica being such an "easy" country. We arrived around 11:30 for our 12:00 interview and only one person was in front of us in the visa cateory we are in (I believe for immigration, ahhh K-1 visa, you wonderfully ambiguous immigration status you). Contrary to other reviews of the San Jose consulate, we were not brought directly inside, but waited outside for a bit (even though I, the USC, was with my fiancé). After waiting maybe 15 minutes we were brought inside to wait another half an hour or 45 minutes or so (bring a sweater, brrrrr!). While we were waiting, we got to hear all these beachy "gringos" complaining about losing their passports while drunk, trying to get residency, etc. The scene in the consulate is not unlike a public health clinic in San Jose (crying children and all!). Finally, we were called up to present our paperwork and evidence, which we had brought organized in a binder and immediately had to un-organiz... read complete review
