So, where to start... My fiance had his interview yesterday and was approved!!!! I was extremely worried/paranoid that we would be denied and I wanted to do everything possible to make sure that we weren't so I flew down to Costa Rica to go to the interview with him.

We arrived at the embassy slightly before 12 and we were let in immediately. We took our number and sat down outside and as soon as we sat down a man came and told us to go take a seat inside. We were the 4th ticket for interviews. We were called and went up to our window with a nice woman who talked with us and looked over all our paperwork and then gave back to us the photos, proof of ongoing relationship, my tax returns for 2010 and 2009 (they kept 2011), and some other stuff... I had been trying to move things along and get everything done ahead of time so I had paid the k1 MRV fee online, this caused a bit of a commotion and I was told that they don't accept that form of payment and that it said in packet 3 that I needed to pay it at the embassy. Unfortunately, as we told her, I had paid the fee before he had picked up packet 3. I pushed this a bit and she said she would ask her superior if we needed to pay it again.

It worked out in the end and I didn't have to pay twice but I would suggest NOT paying it online to others. We were told to go back to our seats and sat around for a while until they started calling names to come up and do the finger print scans. After the finger print scan my fiance was told to go back and take his seat with me again and to continue waiting.

What I can remember of everything is that there was a man ahead of us and he was 32 and was sponsored by his family (all of whom were in the US already) and he was approved first. Then there was a much older woman who was there with her daughter and two grandchildren and was interviewed and approved. After that came one woman on a K3 visa and another couple with their baby who were also applying for a K3 for the husband, both cases were for reasons we weren't sure about were told they had to get another document and it would take about 3 months to get to the next step. Then a guy on a K1 was called to window next and they were giving him a hard time and asked him questions about his fiance, such as "Does she have lots of friends?" he said "yes" and then they asked him "Who is her best friend?" and he said "I don't know.". He was told that he was missing a lot of information and hadn't brought everything he needed...

At this point my fiance was determined that they were taking the easy cases early and that we were going to be denied or at least told to bring back more information. Finally he was called up and I went with him, he was sworn in and they asked me if I was the fiancee and I said of course! She began by asking for some of the paperwork that the first woman had given us back. The she asked him questions such as:
What type of work does your fiance do?
What is her title at work?
Where does she work?

He knew the answers to all the questions because we had practiced with a list of questions we found online and I had brainstormed for anything I thought we might not have covered. It was really helpful! She was putting everything together and started telling him he could come back next week on Thursday to pick up his passport and we were staring at her with blank looks, so she told us "You have been approved." javascript:emoticon('') We were so excited that we didn't listen to much after that and had to call back the next morning to ask what time he could pick up the passport since we were scheduling his flight out as soon as possible. They said 3pm on Thursday but that we shouldn't schedule the 5:30pm flight that we were looking at since he wouldn't make it in time and he would have to be at the embassy for a while so that they could explain everything to him about the visa.
We were so excited and we both agreed that my presence definitely helped us and presented a united front. He will be here in less than a week now and we couldn't be happier about it!!! javascript:emoticon('')
