Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I arrived at Consulate 1 hour after my husband (the Canadian citizen) and the security guard had no problem letting me in with just my U.S. Passport. The staff was friendly, but seemed suspicious, not sure if it had a lot to do with my husband being Pakistani as well, or maybe I'm just a worry wart.

Not much to add to the other experiences. We were very glad to know that C. should show up at 9:45, that he needed to leave his luggage behind, and to have the paperwork in order posted.

The interview was easy; they asked him two questions about me, and one question about his traffic violation arrest that we had disclosed. The officer chuckled that he had been honest enough to include it. He was out of there by about 11:30 and told to return at 2.

C. found downtown Vancouver dull since it was mostly office buildings, and it was raining. He had lunch, got bored, returned to the consulate around 1:30 and had his visa by 1:45. Picked up his luggage, hopped in a taxi, returned to the airport, flew standby back to Edmonton, and was home by 10pm.

Thanks to VJ for all of the assistance!

Review Topic: K3 Visa

Our K3 interview was Jan 11th at 2:30pm. My wife and I arrived about 15 minutes early and there was just one other person at the security checkpoint. The guards were friendly and passage was easy since we followed the guidelines that came with the interview appointment letter. They sent us to the 19th floor to window 12 and there were maybe 10 people there altogether, some alone and some with spouses/fiance(e)s (I understand the mornings are much busier than the afternoons). When called up they took our name and appointment letter then we sat back down. Called up again we had to give the original and one copy of all the items from the checklist that came with packet 3, for us that was the birth certificate, marriage certificate, my divorce certificate, police certificate, forms 156 and 156k. Also they wanted two photos and of course my passport. Then we sat down in the main waiting area until they called my name and we went into an interview room. The interviewer was very polite... read complete review

First of all, a note about staying in Vancouver. We thought we'd be genius and stay on the outskirts of downtown to save some money on our hotel. Well, save money on the hotel, we did. But the money we saved we spent on taxis TO downtown. So my recommendation, find a downtown hotel, spend a little more money. You can walk to the medical, the interview, the fun touristy area, the beach, the park, the aquarium, and pretty much anything you'd really want to do. If we would have stayed in a downtown hotel, the only time we would have had to get at taxi was to get out to the airport. Also, be warned, there is a really bad part of town just outside of downtown, so if you don't know the area and are driving yourself, be very careful.

Alright, enough of that, onto the medical.
Craig had his medical with Dr. Ian Morgan at Woking Medical Services in Vancouver. The building is on one of the main stretches downtown, and the address is very visable, although there isn't really... read complete review

Well, at 6:00 a.m. (ok.. 6-ish) when the guy at the hotel's front desk said it was -30 outside I decided not to go line up by 7:00 a.m. as planned. To hell with it - I'm not a penguin after all!

So at 7:15 I left the safety of the nice warm hotel room and walked the 50 steps or so over to the consulate with my scarf wrapped around my head like an old Italian granny. I was the first person there and by the time they unlocked the doors and invited me in at about 7:25, I truly began to question whether this visa was actually worth standing outside in the freezing cold for. Ok.. not really, but I did consider just coming back later.

Then the doors were opened and all was forgotten. It was definitely more pleasant than going through airport security. I did not have to take my shoes off and the guards/officers were very nice. After the security check, I was given a chit which read "A - window #9". The guard told me not to lose it cause it meant I was first in li... read complete review
