arrived just before 7 am. 2 people already waited. One person got there at 6:20! Bring an umbrella if you arrive early; there is no canopy where you have to wait in the line outside the building.

The security guard let us in at around 7:30. (Do not bring any substantial belongings. A gentleman with a small briefcase was told to leave and come back without it. He had been somewhere at the front end of the queue...) The queue really grows around 7:30 am. You can leave your cell phone and small items at the security desk.

We were taken to the basement and told to wait. (there is a photo booth in the basement, $4 for passport photos).

Security guard came down in the elevator (probably around 8 am) and took the first 4 people upstairs. They called us up one by one to bank-teller-like windows where they collected the medical exam results and the self addressed, prepaid envelope. They gave me a chance to correct any personal info on file such as ... read complete review

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I am home from Montreal now and just ripped up my Package 4 letter! It's nice to finally say goodbye to the Montreal Consulate!

I had my K1 interview on Tuesday, August 3rd, and here is a little info on my experience.
I hope you find it useful and comforting at the same time. The prep leading up to the interview is stressful and the waiting long and frustrating, but before you know it you'll be celebrating too!

OK..so my mom and I stayed at Hotel St. Denis on Rue St. Denis (www.hotel-st-denis.com). If you're a CAA member it's pretty affordable. We had a nice big room with two double beds and a big TV for $107/night. Very comfortable, quiet and close to the Consulate. I could have walked but opted to take a cab ride (4 minutes away, $6) on the day of my interview.
Rue St. Denis also has lots of affordable restaurants, including an Italian one next door to the hotel. Delicious tiramisu

On the dreaded Interview Day, I wok... read complete review

Hi all! We were approved on July 26th, 2010 in Montreal. This is our review of the Interview process from beginning to end.

Highlights of the process: Orient yourself with the Consulate Office the day before. You don't want any surprises or getting lost the day of, and knowing where it is and how you are going to get there takes a load of your mind. Before the day of the interview, be sure to organize everything. We organized the IV stuff by the DS-230, and then all supporting evidence. We then organized the AOS stuff by the I-864 and the supporting evidence. We gathered updated financial evidence to prove the AOS, but it wasn't asked for (nice to have ready if necessary). We put this into one packet colored in a transparent blue, and then made 2 copies of everything and organized it the same way in other packet. This proved to be extremely helpful.

Okay, so back to the process. We arrived at 6:00 am. We were the first there and to my surprise ... read complete review

Well I must say it is very interesting to finally be on this side of the review after all this time reading with interest others' reviews and comments. That said, I will write about my experience overall and hopefully someone may benefit or at least read about it.

I flew into Montreal from BC the day before (July 26th). I stayed at the Delta Montreal (President Kennedy location).

Before I get to the hotel and consulate review, I do want to inform about transportation to and from the airport and what I learned. Initially after reading past reviews and emailing others' etc, I had decided that I would likely use L'Aerobus from the airport and then shuttle it to my hotel.

I arrived and went looking for L Aerobus ticket station or anything that resembled this autobus....NOTHING. I could not find a thing. So I started to ask airport staff etc and not a soul knew anything about this service. I was pointed to various people that 'could help' b... read complete review

We arrived at the consulate about 6:30 am. We stood on the left side of the door, and the line formed behind us. The guard opened the door around 7:30 am. We went down the stairs to the elevator. After about 15 minutes, the guard came down in the elevator and brought up letters A - E. We sat in the US citizens side of the room until 8:30. Letter B was called to a window before we were, but it wasn\'t long until Hubby was called. He handed in the orginals, made a couple of corrections on the DS-230, and was fingerprinted at that time. Then it was sit and wait again. At about 9:15 (Letter B was approved and gone by then), we were called to booth 7. A very nice lady swore us in. She said that she had retired from the Montreal office about 1 year ago, and only came back when they were swamped. This was her first day back, and we were her first case. She said that while she was waiting on the computer to boot up with her login, she had gone over our file. She said something ab... read complete review
