Hello fellow VJers!
I had my interview Monday October 24th. I arrived at the Consulate at around 6:30am and there were three other people in line ahead of me. By 7:30am there was quite a long line up of possibly 20 people or longer.
As others have mentioned the security guards promptly unlocked the front doors at 7:30am. One by one they allowed us to enter going through the security scan similar to what you would do at an airport. Make sure that you don’t bring any large bags, electronics or bottles of water. Many people were told to leave the line up and return without their large bags or briefcases. The security check was easy for me as I only had my files in a cloth bag and my winter jacket.
After getting through the security I was told to go downstairs into the basement waiting area. There were several chairs, a photo booth for passport sized photos and a roped off elevator. I sat as close as I could to the elevator. After 15 minu... read complete review

So we arrived at the front doors of the consulate at 6:00ish am. We expected to be the first but was beaten there by someone who had been there since 5:30 am. I'm glad we decided to get the extra sleep!
The doors promptly opened at 7:30ish and we began to go through security. After we removed most of what we were wearing (just kidding... just coats, belts, keys, change, wallets, etc.) we were directed downstairs and instructed to sit closest to the elevator door. Having realized the previous night (Sunday evening, about 8:30 pm) we realized the passport photos were missing and everything that could possibly print anything was closed, we were pleasantly surprised to find a photo booth for your passport photos. It costs $10 and they only accept coins and $5's and $10's. We were fortunate enough to have that available to us and in exchange for the money and the picture taking experience we got 6 passport photos. More than needed, but better than none!
After s... read complete review

I had my interview on October 19th --- APPROVED!!! :D Thankfully!
My appointment time was for 8:30 am, and I arrived at the consulate at 7:30am. There were about 20 people in front of me and the doors opened just as I got there. (I would advise getting there earlier, I did end up spending quite a few hours in there just waiting for my turn to come up)
You go through security first. Be sure to have your appointment/confirmation letter and passport, you can't enter without it. All people with large bags/backpacks were turned away until they got rid of it. After security, you are sent downstairs to wait in front of the elevator. There was no real order to this. As soon as the elevator doors opened it was a free-for-all, and who ever got on first went up, no sense of line or waiting your turn, so get as close to the elevator as possible.
I was up on the 19th floor by 8am, directed to the cashier window at 14A/B where you show your appointment letter and... read complete review

We arrived at the Consulate at 6:50. There were already 4 couples in line. They were lined up on the right side of the door, so we fell inline with the rest of them. TIP! You should be lining up on the left side of the door. We chatted with a nice couple from Buffalo/Hamilton and a lady from Iran. At 7am, the guard made us all move over to the left side of the door before he started letting us in. Once in, we were scanned and led downstairs. By the time we got to the room that serves as the staging area for the elevator there were about 15 people already there. We tried to sit near the elevator, but those seats were taken so we sat as close as we could.
Once the elevator arrived, the guards let a family on before everyone else and Shirley and I were almost separated! We got upstairs and there was no one there. Everyone sorta milled around until we figured out where to go. TIP! Go to Window 14A to get your number. We got C10.
We sat down and waited for our... read complete review

Hi Everyone! We had our interview on Wednesday October 12th and my passport came back by Friday! It was really easy.. only comment to make is that we were there wayyyy too early at 6:15 .. and it didn't even matter that we were first in line because once we got downstairs the security guard took only the people he processed first up the elevator .. we weren't in his line.. so we were upstairs by 8:15.. out and done by 10:30.
It really is the easiest thing.. just have everything on the check list! Questions were: How did you meet? What does he do for work? How did he propose? then Visa approved! Now onto POE!
Thanks VJ for all of the help!
