We arrived at the Consulate at 6:50. There were already 4 couples in line. They were lined up on the right side of the door, so we fell inline with the rest of them. TIP! You should be lining up on the left side of the door. We chatted with a nice couple from Buffalo/Hamilton and a lady from Iran. At 7am, the guard made us all move over to the left side of the door before he started letting us in. Once in, we were scanned and led downstairs. By the time we got to the room that serves as the staging area for the elevator there were about 15 people already there. We tried to sit near the elevator, but those seats were taken so we sat as close as we could.
Once the elevator arrived, the guards let a family on before everyone else and Shirley and I were almost separated! We got upstairs and there was no one there. Everyone sorta milled around until we figured out where to go. TIP! Go to Window 14A to get your number. We got C10.
We sat down and waited for our number to be displayed on the board facing the chairs. Once it was called, we went to window 10 to get Shirley’s fingerprints taken. She also handed in her passport, the 2 passport pictures and receipt for the MVR payment. We were sent back to wait until our number was called again.
This time, they called us by name and number (it didn’t show up on the screen). We went to window 11 to hand in more of the things we brought. The young lady behind the glass commented on how well organized Shirley was (That’s my gal!) and was happy that Shirley had already made copies. Another TIP is to keep everything well-organized and make copies of everything. After that, we were sent back to wait again.
This time our number was displayed on the board and we went back for the interview. The interviewer ( a guy in his 40’s I think) was friendly and chatty and helped to put us at ease. He asked us how we met, who proposed to who and what our plans were. While we answered, he took a few notes. After less than 10 minutes, he told us that our visa was approved! We were kind of in shock and asked him if he wanted to see any of the proof of relationship that we had brought with us, but he said “No, I believe you” and that was it. He handed the “Welcome” letter through the slot and we were out of the Consulate by 10am.
Everyone at the Consulate was professional but friendly and helped to put us at ease. It was a very good experience. Just be organized and have all your information at hand and I’m sure you’ll have nothing to worry about.
