My appointment was for 8:30, I realised a week or so out that my flight (earliest flight to Sydney from Brisbane in the morning) wouldn't be landing until 8:05 local time, due to daylight savings. I emailed the consulate and asked if I could have a later appointment time, or just show up and wait, but that I would be late. They said they would let security know I'd be delayed that morning. And I was! Due to traffic, I arrived at about 9:30.

This turned out to be fortuitous as I'd been dreading having an "audience", knowing I had a complex and very personal interview ahead. Luckily, I had only one other waiting behind me so that really helped my nerves. All the staff were friendly and efficient. It helped that I had a folder with tabs, so I could access everything I needed without shuffling or fumbling. I highly recommend this.

The questions I remember were:
"When did you meet?"
"How did you meet?"
"Do you have mutual friends?"

Elliott had the interview yesterday in Sydney and after only a 5 minute interview we are APPROVED! elliott said the man was very nice and relaxed and only asked a handful of questions (How/when did we meet? How long did we date before we got engaged? What do I do for work?) he even cracked a few jokes!! elliott said the man did not even go through any of the documents elliott brought

My interview was on the 6th of October, at 9 am.
Like most people here the entry into the consulate was the same, Level 10 for security, then level "gawd knows but my ears popped" for the interview.

When I had my number and I sat there with all my paperwork, with photos, tickets, stubs, chat and phone records, birthday cards etc and waited.
You get called up to one window where a gentleman took the important documents (the originals for the copies I had sent in via email earlier) and then back to the seat and wait.
After a while (like an hour or so) I got called up for the interview itself. It was like 4 or 5 questions and the lady didn't even need to see the evidence I had. Sadly there was a problem with the financial paper work (See Aussiegal85 below, I was the one "declined") but it wasn't a full decline they just needed one more bit of paperwork. The interview it self was easy. and when I got the paper work from the U... read complete review

I had my interview 6 October at 9am.

I went to the consulate around 8.40am assuming I would be very early, but there were already lots of people there. You go through security at level 10 after presenting your appointment letter and passport, and then your paperwork is checked and sorted by one of two people on the same floor. Most of the documents I was asked to bring were not even looked at, they only looked at my birth certificate, our marriage certificate, my police check and my husband's financial information.

After that, you are seated and wait for the guard to take you to a lift which takes you to level 59. This place is like a large waiting area for the bank, or for Medicare. There is a little play room for children in one area, but no bathrooms or even any clocks. You aren't allowed to bring any electronic equipment either, so maybe bring a magazine or be prepared to spend a lot of time contemplating life.

After a taking a ticket, y... read complete review
