Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

This morning My wife and I went to our 8:30am appointment, we arrived 1/2 before. We went through security, put our interview letter in the slot and waited. We had everything you could possibly bring, wedding albums, legal papers, joint account info, insurance..etc. We also brought our shops LLC papers and such, we figured it would not hurt. My wife was called first and took our 50lb bag of paperwork. She was questioned for about 20 minutes and then I was called in. I was very nervous and had not slept well the night before. I was asked for ID, then proceeded the questions, not many, mostly centered on how we knew each other, why we did not marry 15 years ago, why I let family dictate my life choices and a short discussion on my one time denial of entry, and my many years as a long haul cross border truck driver. Then she wanted to see our company information, LLC etc, she wanted copies, so we had to go to my wifes office, make some and bring them back. The interview was friendly, last... read complete review

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I had my AOS Interview at New Orleans office today.

Like others, it was straightforward, we were asked for ID and some evidence that we were living together - we produced a joint bank statement, joint auto insurance and life insurance showing each other as beneficiaries.

The IO said that she was happy with what we had, and that she really didn't feel like talking about what color the paint in the bedroom is for half an hour. Explained that GC would take up to 8 weeks, but usually 2-4, and that EAD was proof of status til then. A brief discussion about soccer vs football, but then the IO noticed we had some wedding photos, so she had a look through them. The interview was over with in seven minutes.

We had our AOS (I-485/I-130) interview on April 20, 2010. We made it there like 15 mins before our appointment. We were instructed to drop our appointment notice in the mailbox and wait to be called in. A little after 9 o'clock, a gentleman called our names, greeted us and led us to his office where the interview started. We had our 8 month old daughter with us, so he asked for her birth certificate. I handed him a whole big folder full of EVERYTHING you could imagine as a proof of our bona fide marriage. Documents include:

-Proof of joint house ownership
-Last 3 years of tax papers
-Letters of emplyment (We both worked at the same school back then)
-Pay stubs
-Photos
-Cards
-My M.D. degree
-My wife's B.A. degree
-Bills
-Car insurance
etc etc

He flipped through the pages and asked the following questions:

-Where did we meet?
-How did we meet?
-Have i met her ... read complete review

We arrived 20mins early, made it to security checkpoint. Security guard told us to put the reciept notice under the door. I thought we were going to be first in line because our appointment was at 9am, but to my surprise people were already there. We waited for a hour before my name was called, the IO was very professional and friendly. We took the oath and He made us so comfortable we were even joking a little bit. He ask us to verify our address and we did, he ask us where we met, where was the wedding taken place, and he also ask me all the questions on the I-485 form with regards to Crime of course all the answers were no. I must admit i was a nervous wreck, but my wife was very convincing she blew the interviewer away with the most perfect answers. BTW she's a Recuiter at her job so you know how that goes. The IO even given us some pointers for when i am doing the removal of conditions. He ask us if we wanted to added anything to our file, i gave him our bank statement. He didn't ... read complete review

We showed up early and were admitted without a problem. We dropped our interview letter in the slot on the door, and before we could get back from the bathroom, we were called for the interview.

The interview took about 15 to 20 minutes including the oath at the beginning. The officer was very nice, though not overly friendly - very professional. She asked some routine questions and some case-specific questions. Finally, she mentioned that we would probably get the GC before the EAD. That's when we knew we were approved. We asked to confirm that we were approved, and she said that we were and that she would update our file online before the end of the day.
