Got to the embassy at 7:30 for an 8:00 appointment. We went through security and settled in for our wait. We were the second immigrant visa appointment, and G. was called to the window at 8:30 to go through documents and get fingerprinted. Cooled our heels until 9:45 when it was interview time! A young man was the interviewer, and said he was new on the job, and cried every time he looked at his desk because of all the paperwork. The interview itself took about three minutes. G. explained that we were traveling to Amsterdam on Monday, so the interviewer said that he'd approve the visa, give G. back his passport so he could travel, and that G. could arrange for SMS to collect his passport, take it to the Embassy, and SMS would return it a week later.

Once arrived at the embassy we had to wait a few hours before it was our turn. The interview itself did not take long at all. We encountered a bit of a snag when they told us that my husband could no longer sponsor me because he was changing employers upon his return to the US. My brother-in-law agreed to sponsor me and I had to mail in a new form stating this. I did not have to go back to the embassy for another interview and received my visa shortly after!

My appointment was arranged for 10am so I arrived at about 9.15am. The two 'meeters and greeters' checked my name on the list and directed me to a line which was about 20 people long. Although there appeared to be some sort of order to who was going through the security room, there were the odd 'moaners' that were pushed through quickly. It took about 35 minutes of standing and waiting for my turn in what was a nice and sunny day. I'm just glad my interview was on the 19th and not the 20th as the 20th was WET and I'm not sure I would have wanted to stand in the rain waiting to get in for my interview. Once at the security I was relieved of my two electronic devices, key fob and mobile, and my bag was scanned while I walked through the metal detector. Once I had picked up my bag and numbered tag for my phone/keys I was directed around to the far side of the building.
The signs are very clear as to where you must go and I quickly found myself at the reception desk of th... read complete review

Hello, after months and months of waiting for my hubby's appt. for his immigrant visa we had our day at the embassy this past Wednesday. We waited outside from 10 to 10:00 for our 10:30 appt. and finally got into the building about 11:30. Called up about an hour into our wait to the first window where a fairly pleasant lady took his documents to check over. She was very matter of fact with it and while he was off paying commented that my husband had a grammer school education. . .strange, I thought. About 2 hours after that we were called for the actual interview. The young American woman who did the interview, never once looked at us. She kept her eyes glued to the computer screen the whole time, asked two questions, did we own a house in the UK (yes) and did we have a mortgage (no). We were at the window about 3 minutes in all and the visa was issued. Off we went to stand in the courier queues for about 30 minutes and then we were out and away. Less than 36 hours from the time we lef... read complete review

My K1 US Embassy Interview Experience.
I stayed with a friend in South London and took the bus to Park Lane.
The embassy is parallel with Park Lane but a few streets to the east. The map
that they give you is a little basic but you get the general idea.
The embassy itself is a bit of a 1960s monstrosity where you can see it but the
significance of the place still makes you gulp. On the roof at the front is a giant
eagle. There is a little garden at the front but there is a lot of construction
around the building and of course the huge concrete blocks to stop terrorists
in jeeps getting too close.
The boundary is patrolled by armed police and a private security firm do the rest.
Not the US troops I expected. Even at 8am there was a crowd. They vet you first of
all by examining your letter and passport, before you join the line proper. They
also instilled panic into many o... read complete review
