There is a bakery named Gutknecht where you can store your belongings for 3 CHF, since you are not allowed to bring any bags or electronic devices with you. It is located one block from the us embassy.

There were a lot of people waiting outside (10 am). When I showed my invitation to the officer, I didn't have to stand in line. The officer asked about my medical, checked if it is still sealed and then he told me to open it. I was then allowed to enter the building and go through security (it's like an airport security check).

I was sent to a small, closed room with a window in front of me (unfortunately the light was broken). The woman on the other side was very friendly and asked (in swiss german) for passport, birth certificate, police report, passport pictures and the financial / employment proof of my boyfriend, the medical and the visa payment receipt. She also asked how I would like to receive the visa. I gave her the prepared envelope with the 7 C... read complete review

My interview was today (13th Feb 2014) at the embassy in Bern, Switzerland. The instructions said I should be there 11am, be on time and present the instruction letter to the security and not wait in line. I was ther 10:45 and they let me inside for the security check. The lady was very nice, she had to take to CD-Rom away from me with the x-ray from the medical and stored it, also she said I have to open the medical examination envelope, as no closed envelopes are allowed. So I had to step out to the pedestrian way, open the enevelope and show her (staying inside at the window) that there is only papers in the enevelope. Then I went back inside. She said this is no problem, as the consulate knows about this security issue.
I walked down the stairs and entered the embassy/consulate. There is a desk, where they screen if you have all your documents with you. But when I mentioned "K-1" they immediately sent me to a separate room. A lady showed up behind a security window. She was... read complete review

When I arrived at the Embassy, several people were waiting outside the Embassy being confused about when/how/if/where they could enter and it made me a little nervous because I didn't know what to do either. The first person I asked led me to the wrong entrance. When I found the correct one, I was greeted by a security guard who gave me instructions. Unfortunately I had difficulties understanding his English, and I was still confused about what to do. Once I made it past the security checkpoint everything got much more pleasant.

I was brought to a smaller interview room right away (even though I was there way too early). A woman who talked in German to me went through all my documents with me to see if they were complete and then took my finger prints.
After that I was sent to the general waiting area. There were dozens of people already waiting there, but surprisingly it didn't take that long for me to be called (about 15 minutes). I didn't expect the "intervie... read complete review

When I arrived 20 minutes before Interviw there already was a bunch of people waiting. Due to profound security check it took quite a while and when I was inside, one of the security guard spotted my letter and guided me to a room where I met a member of the embassy staff. She took all my documents, checked if everything is complete. She then sent sent me to a waiting area until I was called up to a counter, where another official interviewd me. Whole process took approx 1.5 hrs. Those people were hoghly professional. Correct and polite. But I guess I would have been more comfortable if they would have smiled or small talked a bit. Overall quick and professional.

Our situation:
Married 1.5 years, I (the US citizen) was living here in Switzerland since we got married. We started the process in the beginning of April 2013 and our interview was October 8th. It was originally Oct 1 but we rescheduled for the next week.

We read all of the reviews on this page and found that our experience was quite similar. We arrived (after traveling from Zurich) and parked a bit too far... so it was quite a walk. Then we got past security and had our documents examined and a few questions asked. The woman handling our documents was not very friendly and seemingly more concerned about her "security" than anything else in the world.

Our AOS (Affidavit of Support) had a few very minor issues/mistakes, and USCIS requested that we bring a new, corrected copy with us to the interview rather than send it back to USCIS and delay the process more. We did so and prepared a whole new AOS and brought it with us but nobody EVER mentioned it... read complete review
