There is a bakery named Gutknecht where you can store your belongings for 3 CHF, since you are not allowed to bring any bags or electronic devices with you. It is located one block from the us embassy.
There were a lot of people waiting outside (10 am). When I showed my invitation to the officer, I didn't have to stand in line. The officer asked about my medical, checked if it is still sealed and then he told me to open it. I was then allowed to enter the building and go through security (it's like an airport security check).
I was sent to a small, closed room with a window in front of me (unfortunately the light was broken). The woman on the other side was very friendly and asked (in swiss german) for passport, birth certificate, police report, passport pictures and the financial / employment proof of my boyfriend, the medical and the visa payment receipt. She also asked how I would like to receive the visa. I gave her the prepared envelope with the 7 CHF in stamps. She also took my fingerprints.
In my appointment letter they said I have to come back after lunch or in the evening, but in fact, the woman sent me to the waiting area right away. They called my name took my fingerprints for the second time and told me to take a seat. There were about 50 people waiting and about 6 officers behind windows. After about 45 minutes they called my name again. My window was one of the two separate ones behind a little wall, which gave us a little more privacy. The lady was formal, but friendly. I had to raise my hand and swear to tell only the truth. She handed me a piece of paper with some instructions. I had to read them and tell her, I understand. She took my fingerprints again and asked some of the usual questions while she was looking through my forms:
"How, when, where did you meet?"
"When did you get engaged?"
"Have you met his parents, what did they say?"
"Did he visit you in Switzerland?"
"Did he meet your parents? What do they think of him"
"What is he doing for a living?"
"What are you doing for a living?"
...
It took only about 5 minutes after she said "Congratulation, you are approved."
I was surprised it was much faster then I expected! I didn't even have to show any evidence of relationship. I could barely hold my tears back I also received my original birth certificate and police report back, since I had a copy of everything.
Overall a very good experience! *superhappy
