Medical Exam Review.
I was more nervous for the medical than I think I am for the interview. The previous review on the medical was extremely helpful, but I have a few differences/additional info that I thought I'd mention, seen as I nearly had an aneurism thinking about doing this medical.
The only doctor in Johannesburg since Jan 2014 is Dr Hoosen. You cannot use Dr Cobbs as previously stated.
Yes, you obtain the x-rays and blood work the day before (don't forget to take your passport, two US sized colour passport photos and your original immunization card - if applicable with, when you collect the x-ray and pathology forms from the doctor) your actual medical exam (apparently they get the blood-work results back within a day - they have some sort of arrangement) and definitely go for the x-ray first, as you can get the blood work done while they process the x-ray. They said the x-ray would take 30min to process, but it only took 10min. D... read complete review

My experience with the medical exam in Johannesburg.
I hope this will help someone - would have saved me some trouble and worries if I knew everything before my exam.
The medical exam has to be at least 2 weeks prior to the interview, they told me this was due to the blood test results taking that long. I did not realise this and thought I could have the medical and the interview in the same week. I live in the Western Cape and this meant two trips to Johannesburg. Luckily I called to book the medical appointment early enough.
They will make two appointments on consecutive days, at the doctor's office at suite 108 Sandton City Medical Mews. (Up the stairs across from Standard bank in the banking mall) Its a cosmetic "clinic", last door down the hall on the right. What they didn't tell me was that the first day, I just had to collect the x-ray and bloodwork forms from this office, and then go to Morningside Medi Clinic for the actual x-ray an... read complete review

Arrived at the Consulate at 12:25 for 1 o clock appointment. One or two people before us in line.
At 12:45 they let us in one by one. You go inside and just take a seat and wait to be called.
We got called after 5 minutes or so by a South African lady to window 5. She asked for passport and 2 photos. Thereafter, fingerprints were taken and she asked a couple of questions which were very basic and simple. That was done. Took maybe 5 minutes. She said to have a seat and wait for officer to call u up.
We waited 10-15 minutes and got called up to window 7 by an American officer who was extremely nice and friendly. She really put us at ease. We had our 5 month old daughter with us so she asked to see her lol. Then asked us the following questions:
1/ How did you guys meet (in details)?
2/ What petitioner is doing in South Africa?
3/ What beneficiary is doing in South Africa?
4/ Do you (beneficiary) have any re... read complete review

My Fiance interviewed in Jo'burg for his K-1 Visa. Here is what was relayed to me:
Arrived at embassy and asked to leave his phone with security (he already knew that, but he didn't have anywhere to put it so he took it with him). He arrive at 12:45pm. There was so much traffic he was almost late, so leave early. He was coming from Pretoria. He went inside and was instructed to take a seat and they would call his name. His name was called and he went to the first window with a South African woman. She asked for his packet 3 and according to my fiance, she didn't even ask him any questions about our relationship. He was instructed to go pay the fee but when he got to the window with the 3 $100 bills, they would not accept one of them because it had writing on it. Apparently they have to be spanking new bills or bills that have not been altered? I thought it was weird that they wouldn't take it. He had to go outside and find an ATM to get rand. They only take ei... read complete review
