Arrived at the Consulate at 12:25 for 1 o clock appointment. One or two people before us in line.
At 12:45 they let us in one by one. You go inside and just take a seat and wait to be called.
We got called after 5 minutes or so by a South African lady to window 5. She asked for passport and 2 photos. Thereafter, fingerprints were taken and she asked a couple of questions which were very basic and simple. That was done. Took maybe 5 minutes. She said to have a seat and wait for officer to call u up.
We waited 10-15 minutes and got called up to window 7 by an American officer who was extremely nice and friendly. She really put us at ease. We had our 5 month old daughter with us so she asked to see her lol. Then asked us the following questions:
1/ How did you guys meet (in details)?
2/ What petitioner is doing in South Africa?
3/ What beneficiary is doing in South Africa?
4/ Do you (beneficiary) have any relatives in the US?
5/ Have you (beneficiary)been to the US?
6/ Date of marriage?
7/ When was baby born?
That was it. Thereafter, she asked if we wanted to come pick up the passport ourselves in person or DHL. We opted to come in person so she gave us a green slip and said to come back in a week.
No evidence or paperwork was asked for.
We were out and back in our car at 1:45.
Everything took less than an hour.
Wonderful experience.
