My kids, my mom and I arrived at the embassy early but the security informed us that we could not wait outside so we should come back 15mins before our interview time. We walked over the street and spent some time in Sandton Mall. At 12:45 we went back to the embassy where they checked our names off a list and waited to be called.
Not long after, we went inside and through security. We had left all our electronics in the car so there was no need to store anything. We then went through to a second building where our passports were checked and then asked to wait. There were three other families all with kids which eased my nerves a little.
After maybe 15mins I was called to a window where they took all my forms, documents, proof, passports etc. I then had to pay the fee and have my fingerprints taken.
After about an hour we were called to another window for our interview. The interviewer was very friendly and after greeting us I asked if the ... read complete review

My experience with my embassy was very good.
I arrived at 11:30am for my 1pm appointment. I was the first one there, waited until about 12:30 when some people started join me, still standing outside.
Just before 1pm, they started calling out our names to make sure that we were all there.
There were some American citizens who came for other services, they went in first.
Thereafter I went through security, left all my electronic devices with them and went in with my bag and file. I was called to the first window where all my originals were taken, including photographs.
After that, I went the next window for finger prints and other verifications, that all took about an hour.
At 2:05 pm, I was called to the interview window, very nice America lady only asked me 3 questions :
- When is your husband's birthday?
- Where did you meet?
- When was the last time you saw him?
Then she said,... read complete review

I had my interview yesterday Dec 10. I woke really early as i had to fly to Johannesburg from Cape Town. It was really easy getting there, just hopped on the plane and then took the Gautrain to Sandton. I arrived at 11:30 for my 13:00 appointment. I was the second person there. There are some benches outside while you wait so i sat there until it was time.
at 13:00 a lady called out our names from the list and we were let in one by one. Inside you are given a number and you have to wait to be called. It wasn't long till i was called to a window. There a friendly South African lady went through our I-129F. It took her a while i was getting a bit nervous that she was thoroughly going through everything. She asked me where i stay in the U.S. Eventually she asked for my unabridged birth certificate, I-134 form and tax returns (i gave them proof of employment and pay stubs because i had them) and police clearance. She didn't ask for more proof of relationship as she said we ha... read complete review

I had my K-1 visa interview on the 8th of December 2015
I got there and my name was not on the list despite being given a letter stating my interview would be on the 8th of December. I showed my letter to the lady who was calling out names outside of the embassy to make sure there wasn't any one there who didn't need to be. She let me through.
I got inside, took a number after showing the lady at the desk that I was in fact meant to be there on the 8th. I sat down. The staff at the Johannesburg Consulate are very friendly.
When it came time for my number to be called the lady who I'd shown my letter to came up to me and asked if she could have it because I'd actually been booked for the 15th. I gave her my letter and then a short while later was called up to the counter.
The lady at the counter was very pleasant and just asked for all of my evidence. I gave it all to her and she then took my finger prints as per usual. She then sent m... read complete review

I am writing this review a couple months after the event so I'll just mention what stood out to me. Other people have written very accurate detailed accounts of what happens which helped me a lot. I was extremely nervous for the medical and the interview but they both went fine.
Dr Hoosen's medical rooms are surprisingly small and pokey. The examination was a bit awkward in that he does a physical examination. I was uncomfortable with being examined by a male doctor but there wasn't another option and actually it was fine. They only gave me one vaccination. I was expecting a whole lot more but I had done a couple vaccinations last year and brought a letter from my doctor so I guess I didn't need more? We then drove to Sandton clinic to do the chest x-rays. Drove back and handed them in. The whole thing took a good few hours.
For the interview at the consulate I arrived an hour early and was 5th in line. I recommend wearing a hat and sunblock. I read so many revie... read complete review
