My interview was on July 2011. I arrived at consular at 8:30am, line up for an escort pass for 8:50am together with non-immigrant visa. This process takes 30mins as there are many non-immigrant visa. I went thru the gate and leave my car key and cellphone at the gate house.
I waited for around 5 mins just to submit the medical report and my current/old passport. Then i was asked to come back at 1:30pm for the actual interview. I went to Times square to kill my time.
I arrived back to consular at 1:10pm then line up for a bit for the escort pass again. This time only with the immigrant visa with around 6-7 applicants. Once i enter the interview lobby i waited there for around 30 mins just to get my finger print and thumb scanning. Then waited for another 30mins for the actual interview after all the applicants completed their finger scan. It was around 2:30pm when my actual interview started. Such a long wait

1st April 2010
I arrived at the embassy around 8.50am and got myself into the long line at the guard house to submit IC and show them appointment letter in exchange of visitor pass. This process took around 30 minutes. After that, I went through 2 securtiy check in order to get a number before entering the waiting room. I sat there and wait for around 40 minutes to just submit my documents (I didn't photocopy my original birth cert, I thought the certified translation copy would be enough and got charged 1USD for photocopy there!o_0) and was ordered to come back at 1.30pm.
I went back at around 1pm and right away waiting for my turn in the waiting room after getting through the security check again. The room was crowded with a lot of people, youngs and olds. It was really noisy to an extend that one fo the officers was pissed off and got out of office and yelled at all of the applicants in the waiting room. Finally, after an more than an hour of waiting, m... read complete review

We (my fiance was here for the interview) arrived at the embassy at 9am to submit documents. There were a lot of people waiting and only one counter was serving immigrant visas. (Technically, the K1 is a non-immigrant visa but the embassy places them in the same category as immigrant ones just for speedier processing and to ease the burden of officers servicing non-immigrant visas). The officer who attended to us was friendly and helpful. He was surprised that we knew to show up at 9am because when he looked at our appointment letter, he realized that that part was missing. We explained that through corresponding with the embassy staff, we were notified of this. He was very apologetic and thanked us for being understanding. The document submission was quick because we had our stuff organized. We got to the counter at 9:20am (paid then too, before the actual interview) and was done by 9:30am. We were told to come back at 1:30pm for our interview.
We got back to the embass... read complete review

I accompanied Nadiana to her Dec 3, 2009 interview for a US K1 (90 day) visa, aka "sweetheart visa" at the US consulate in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We arrived at 9:15 for a 9:30 appt. After a brief time standing in line outside the consulate, we were ushered into a room in the main building (with the usual airport style security checks) After a brief wait, they took Nadiana's documents and told us to come back at 1:30. We came back at 1:15, repeating the morning's procedure. We ended up talking to a pleasant man around 40 years old who asked us a few perfunctory questions - how did we meet, have we been married, what did I do for a living, and that was it. He had spent time in San Francisco and we chatted a bit about that. He knew where I lived and told Nadiana she was moving to a good location. He seemed to like that we had a picture of us with Nadiana's father sitting together smiling. I was told family support is important and perhaps it was. Pretty smooth sailing - no problems. <... read complete review

Interview:
I arrived at 9am to hand in the documents to the pre-screener (I-134, birth certificate, passport, police certificate, medical results, proof of relationship). A few small questions were asked regarding the relationship, not a big deal really. It went really well. Casual, with no hostility.
One thing to note is the counter could not fit my standard photo album so I had to take out all pictures one by one at the embassy for the pre-screener.
Make sure to get a visa number for immigrants and not non-immigrants as the K1 is processed as an immigrant visa here. So it will be a B number, not an A number. The security guard gets confused between the two. I had to tell him I wanted a B number.
I paid the USD131 fee which was RM498, did not get a receipt immediately and was told to come back at 1:30 pm.
I arrived at 1pm and there were about 5 other people there for immigrant visas. Spent one hour and 15 minut... read complete review
