Interview Experience

The U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt is located at Gießener Straße 30. It is relatively easy to find, especially if you take public transportation.

We arrived at the Consulate at 9:20. Our appointment was at 9:30. There were two queues outside of the building. We weren’t sure which queue to stand in so we asked. We were told to go to the left line. After waiting for two minutes, we approach the clerk’s window.

We said, “We have a visa interview.”
The clerk asked, “Do you want to file a petition?”
We said, “No. We have an interview for the CR-1 visa.”

The clerk asked to see our appointment letter and the beneficiary’s passport. Then, we were crossed off a list that he had in front of him and we were given our magic number. We exited that queue and went over to the other queue, which is for entering the Consulate. We had to go through the security checkpoint.

I got the appointment letter only 5 days after sending packet 3 back and the Interview was already scheduled for 11 days later, so they worked fast!!
My Interview was set for 7.30am. I arrived at 6.45 after having no problem to find a parking space very close to the embassy.
I was about the 20. person in line, but that got longer in minutes. After going through the security (nice staff, just don't bring ANY electronics, no cellphones either or big bags!!)I got to the huge waiting area where I got a number that I was called by. By 8.45am I had all the paperwork done (handing over my passport, addressing an envelope to myself,..., got explained how the process at the POE works and was told that now I had to wait for the Interview and that they would interview the peoplefirst, who did not have their medical exam yet. Well, I thought that was kinda unfair, felt a little punished for having everything done already.
The waiting wasn't too bad considering I was very nervo... read complete review

Although it was very time-consuming, the overall experience was very good. The new consulate facilities in Frankfurt certainly contribute that the whole process runs pretty smoothly.

Upon arrival you need to show your invitation letter/passport (window on the left to the entrance door, left line) and get a number (mine started with a W). Then proceed through the security check (don't bring luggage or electronic devices, no cell phones! - they won't let you in!). They actual consular processing includes three steps:

1) They will collect your passport and a photo at window 23. They also hand you a large blank "Einschreiben" envelope on which you have to write your address. You are also asked to apply the appropriate postage (3.50 €, stamp vending machine is on site).

2) After a while you will be called to another window and a clerk asks you for the required documents. The clerk will go the documentation with you and make sure everything is ... read complete review
