Review Topic: General Review

My appointment was scheduled at 8:30AM but I arrived there 30 minutes earlier. I was told to wait in line for the Visa applicants, by a very friendly lady, and eventually i reached the counter and was given a ticket and a sticker on my passport. Afterwards I was told to wait in line for the security check (which is very similar to a security check at a airport) and since i had nothing but my documents on me it was quick and simple). Afterwards, we were told to continue inside the main building, a very large one. It was quite beautiful and the wall had a really nice drawing on it. This is, however, where a misunderstanding happened. Me and 3 other applicants were told by the receptionist to go to the waiting area and wait for our numbers (the ones we had on our tickets) to appear on a screen to proceed with the interview. However, he forgot to mention that we should first check in with another receptionist who would confirm our appointments and hand over our cases to the officers. That ... read complete review

My appointment was at 9:50 and I got to the consulate at 9:30 (deutsche Pünktlichkeit). There are 2 lines outside the consulate. One for citizens and one for visa applicants. I took the one for visa applicants of course and once I got called to the window, I showed the lady my DS-160 and my passport and was sent to security. The security check felt like an airport (taking jackets and watches off, emptying your pant pockets and so on). If you need to bring your phone to get to the consulate, you will get a locker there where you can leave it for the time of your stay at the consulate.
Once inside the final building, you first go to “check in” where they tell you where to go. For me, that was window 22, where I went through my paperwork with a case worker. He checked my address and that I paid all the fees. You also get a number and are told to wait in the waiting area until your number is called. Once your number is called you go to a second window. I went through... read complete review

Update post interview:

I slept in the Best Western which is 5 minutes to the general consulate. My appointment was timed for 7:50 and the confirmation letter says you should not show up earlier than 15 minutes prior to that. I arrived at 07:15 and gave it a shot, was no problem. You first go to a window outside the general consulate and state your business. You receive a ticket with a waiting number and a large sticker on your passport. After that, you go through security and walk through a couple of doors into another building. There, you walk to the cashier and hand in your passport and in my case missing files. I only gave him my new passport pictures as I was told my other ones were too old and needed an update. The missing IRS document he did not take, but told me to hand to the caseworker in the next step. I paid my fee (310 EUR) in cash (but credit card would've been fine too) and then was told that they'll now keep my passport in the file and I should s... read complete review

it was all good, quick and easy. Just the matter that they rescheduled the interview a few days before was annoying, cause I already booked train and hotel room.
