Compared to what I've read about, I thought the process at the consulate went quickly. Hongping's response when I said this was, "Maybe for you". She was, however, quite surprised with how quickly the actual interview went. She was asked how we met, what type of work did I do, where did I work, and what type of work did she do. Then she was told, "Congratulations!". She said that it lasted all of one minute. So, my advice - pretend you're a good boy scout and be prepared.

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Hi everyone,

I was doing an IR-1 visa in China. I just finished my interview in Guangzhou a week ago and picked up my visa 3 days after. Here I am writing down what happened on the interview day FYI.

We booked our room with the Yang's. They were very hospitable people and they gave us a 3 bedroom set all private. On the interview day, I went downstairs waiting in line around 7 am. I didn't bring any electronic stuff with me, so it's really fast for me to go through the security check. My appointment letter was taken by the consulate employee.

I was sitting there checking all my documents and did a slight re-organization of the paper. I put all paper that's going to be taken away all together. Soon after my name was called to hand in my docs at window #25. It's a very nice young Chinese girl. She checked my passport, took away the copy of the bio passport page, I-864, 3 years of 1040 forms, medical report, new DS-230 PART-I (I did a minor cha... read complete review

My appointment letter indicated that my interview was arranged on Oct14,2009 7:15

7:10 I arrived and waited in the front of the building ( Tian Yu Garden), where already had hundred people waiting there

7:55 The security guys working for US Consulate started to let people get in the building after checking interviewee's appointment letter and passport

8:25 I was called to an assigned window to submit my documents and was asked by the Chinese lady who collected my docs Are you CCP? Have you been US? How many times? Why been to US so many times?...Have you been to HK, Macau or Taiwan?

8:40 Fingerprints
9:00 Oath

9:15 I was called up to an assigned window for interview. Wow, so early...I thought that I might be one of the first 10 people to get interviewed.
VO was a young American guy and looked quite nice. We greeted to each other and then I handed in my passport.

VO: Have you been ... read complete review

Cui arrived at the embassy at 7:15am. At 10am she was called up for her interview. The man said hello and asked her how she was doing which she replied "great" to. He took a look at our file and asked her where we had meet at, she told him we had worked together at the same venue for Olympic games. He said ohh thats cool then he asked what I did for work over in China and what my company was doing there, she told him my company was the power supplier for the Beijing Olympic games. He then asked if she had any pictures, she said yes and told him she had been to america twice with me and had taken many pictures. He fliped thru the book for about 30 seconds and then asked if she finished college, she said yes and handed him her resume. He looked at it and smiled and said approved!!!!
After 3 hour wait it was a 2 minute interview! all in all a good experience

Review Topic: K3 Visa

My wife was interviewed for no longer then about 5 minutes by a man she said had a somewhat "mean" disposition. Only asked her about 3 questions, then tried to intimidate her by asking some questions in English. She has very limited English skills, even though I do not have too much trouble communicating with her. Visa was rejected due to what they say is not a "bona fide" relationship.

We have been married for a year now. We have the government issued marriage certificate and I've visited her 3 times now. It appears they made their decision even before interviewing my wife. Now we will go the CR1 route and try again. Hopefully she will be interviewed by another consulate agent who is competent. One can only hope.
