I went with my fiancee to her interview at the Vancouver consulate, scheduled at 1pm. We took the skytrain there, since she lives close to the skytrain station in New Westminster. Get off at Burrard station, then just walk a short block east to Pender street, then another short block north to the consulate (overall about a 5 minute walk from the station).

Got to the consulate at about 12:40, where we were told by security we can't bring my backpack in (I had lots of stuff prepared, especially for proof of relationship, that I didn't want to carry individually on the skytrain). So, off we go across the street to leave my backpack with the cigar shop to hold for a service fee of $5 (we tried leaving it with the Starbucks, but they said they can't hold it for security reasons because technically it's the same building as the consulate).

Back to the consulate, it's now 12:45, and we go through security, who were fairly nice and professional. Showed them he... read complete review

So we arrived at the consulate by 6:20 am and there was already a couple lined up they werent a member of vj but they were aware of the site. About 10 minute later edmontongirl showed up she was number three and then another 20 minute pass by Kballtex showed up. By 7:30 the line was pretty long and soon after the security open the door for us.

I got letter B, make sure not to take any electrical device it will only slow u down. as you already know from previous review they told us to wait downstairs, then we went up to the 19th floor and what amazin view of Montreal.
8:10 the first couple that had letter A got called for document collection and they were DCF
8:20 Edmontongirl got called to the booth even though we were letter B, they were also DCf

Thanks to all the other VJ reviewers, my interview went quite smoothly, so now I'm here to do my bit.

I got to the consulate this morning around 6:45 AM. As soon as I spotted a couple standing outside a building with a big folder and an express post envelope, I realized that this must be the American Consulate! And when I noticed that they were standing on the left side of the door, I knew they had to be VJ'ers! They were very nice, and the time passed quickly as we chatted and exchanged information, and people started arriving around 7:15 or so.

The doors opened around 7:30 am, we went through Security. They had us empty our pockets. I wasn't carrying any electronic devices, however my apartment keys were on an electronic keyring that had a small torch at the end of it. Security held on to my keys and gave me a ticket so I could collect them at the end of my appointment.

Then the VJ couple and I went down the stairs, we waited for about 10... read complete review

Just got back to the hotel from the interview. It was very quick and easy. We were the first ones there, (around 6:40 a.m.). Another vjer showed up right after us. It did start to get crowded after 7 or so. The process was fairly quick. If you read other reviews you probably know the procedures. Quick run down. Securtiy makes you empty pockets for xray etc. Don't bring electronic devices, includin electronic keys. They take u upstaris to wait for a bit. You get called back to show your original documents. They will ask for copies of evertying as well. Sit back down. Come back for electronic finger printing. We were called in at 9:10 or so for the interview. They asked my wife what she did for a living, what I did for a living, if I had health insurance, when the last time she visited was, the last time I visited, when and how we met the first time, and where we physically met the first time. The lady was quite friendly and joked a bit. She said everything seems fine and she would get t... read complete review

We arrived at the consulate at 7:20am. Line up was't long at all. We were 5th in line I think. Screening was painless. Once screened we went downstairs and waited for a guard to take us up in the elevator. Once there we waited some more for my name to be called. After about 20 minutes I was called to window 11 where a nice blonde hair lady requested all the required documents needed. Once given I was finger printed then sent to the cashier to pay the fee. Brought the proof of payment back to the nice lady at window 11 then took a seat back in the waiting area. Lucky thing my fiance was with me because I realized I had the wrong sized X-presspost envelope. My fiance ran out and got the right one. Make sure you have the large one (12x15). Finally got called into interview room 8 where met a very nice curly haired man. Took the oath and was asked a few questions like how did we meet, have I ever had trouble crossing the border, have either of us ever been married before? Any chil... read complete review
