Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My appointment was scheduled for Monday, March 28 at 8:30 a.m., but following the advice posted, I was there early, about 40 minutes before the doors opened-it was very cold. I had gone up the day before and done a reconnaisance trip. I stayed at the Queen Elizabeth hotel (expensive, but one night of pampering before the interview was worth it). The Queen E is about a 5 block walk to the embassy, which is closer to Rene Levesque blvd than St. Catherine's. There was one couple ahead of me. I had only taken with me my document case, x-ray (which nobody looked at or wanted) and a very few things in my pocket-wallet with some cash/credit cards, just in case, a couple of tissues, just in case, and a lipstick. The sign on the Consulate door says no purses (no qualification as to size) but I did notice women with small purses were admitted.

The guards inquired as to the purpose of my visit, looked at my passport and appointment letter, then sent me through the left side... read complete review

Interview went well. Very polite & helpful person. We had to take care of a couple things that we missed. Make sure that your country spells your name correctly on your criminal background check. Mine mispelled my last name. You also need to have a criminal background check for every place you lived since the age of 16yrs. old. I missed this & had to wait for Germany to send the background check, then translate it into enlish. They approved me with the condition that I would send these 2 missing pieces of the paper pile they require. Sent them back overnight & my Visa was in the mail within 2 days.
I was nervous just like everyone else & I'm happy to say there isn't any reason to be as long as you are truthful.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Hi all:
First of all, a huge thank you to VisaJourney.com! It answered many of my concerns and provided tips to make the nerve-breaking process much easier. My interview was on 3/21 in Montreal and it went like a breeze, like many on VJ said! (but i still could hardly sleep at all the night before...)

For those who don't want to read through the entire post, here are my suggestions based on my experience:
1. Don't bring a large bag: Better yet, don't bring any bag but a plastic shopping bag and a folder. On my way out of the consulate, there were quite a few people who were refused entry because the size of their bags.

2. Fill DS-230 even if you've filled DS-260: Montreal somehow wasn't equipped to handle electronic processing.

3. Bring an extra photocopy of all original documents

4. Arrive early regardless of your appointment time. It's first-come-first-serve.

Ok here is my interview experience... read complete review

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Wow. Everything went fine in the end. My husband had his interview today and isn't much of a talker so I don't have a lot of detail. If I get more information, I will update this review.

We barely got through and very nearly were denied.

Mainly, it was like everyone said except that somehow there was a mix-up as to which visa class we were applying under. They had us a reunificiation when we are already living today in Canada and have been for several years. Once that got sorted out, then there was the drilling on domicile which we should have had more documentation for since we are definitely going, but I can see where they had questions.

They also said that they didn't believe that I was going to go back to the States. I should have come in person, along with him. I would have shown up in my Packer T-shirt whistling "Oh, say can you see". Not go home? Hahahahahah. I am ecstatic that I can go home.

My advice? D... read complete review
