So my interview at the Vienna embassy was pretty much like everybody else´s :-)
Once the embassy had the documents sent to them from NVC everything moved really fast.
The sent me packet 3 and it took almost no time to gather all the docs - the thing that set us back a week (not bad in the grand scheme, especially since I am still working anyways), was that when reading packet 3 the first section says "fill out DS-160 and DS-230 Part one and send the confirmation page for the DS-160 and the whole completed DS-230 back right away"
The second section lists all the supporting docs that are applicable to me (Affidavit of Support, Police Certificate, 2 photos, birth certificate, relatoinship evidence) and then it says "do not sent any of these documents"
Well, I concentrated so hard on not sending any documents, that I didnt include the DS-160 and DS-230 with the readiness letter either lol
So beware of that! They were really nice ... read complete review

I had my interview at the US consulate in Vienna, Austria today.
First I came in to ask what i am allowed to bring in concerning electronic devices. A man told me that phones and chargers are allowed though no ebooks or cameras.
Then they checked my passport and wanted to see my invitation.
Afterwards I put my bag and jacket on an X-ray machine for screening.
Inside i waited in line for "Window 5".
There were 2 ppl in front of me.
At the Window a lady greeted me friendly. She wanted passport, evidence of financial support, Ds 156K, my birth certificate, 2 photos, a police certificate and so on.
After giving her all these papers I went to Window 3 to pay for the interview.
Then I had to wait in the waiting area until a lady called me to Window 6 to interview me.
A young woman asked me to fill out a form and asked me to speak an oath. Then the fingerprints were taken.... read complete review

I arrived 15 minutes prior to the interview and was asked to wait on the side. When it was my turn (I was the first of 3), I was asked in to have my bags checked and I went though a metal detector.
Right afterwards I walked up to a window and my file was already there waiting with a very nice lady. She asked me if I wanted to do it in German or English and I told her I preferred German. She asked for my Passport, the medical results, the form that was attached to my invitation, my birth certificate and my criminal record certificate.
Then she asked me to provide information on whatever form of financial support I chose - I handed her the Form I-134, copies of 2 recent pay stubs, W-2 for 2013, the current bank status (which was like 3 pages) and the letter from the employer. All of this was done within 30 minutes.
I then had to pay the fee (€212 / $265) at another window and was asked to sit down and wait for the consul to interview me.
After 5 minutes of ... read complete review

The Embassy is a bit hard to find: It's not right on the parkring, it's on the side of the building in the courtyard area between parkring 12 and 12a (though I heard that you can get there through the lobby of the hotel). I went a bit early so I would have time to find the place. The consulate is on the fourth floor.
I arrived before 1 and was told to come back at 1. *Important!* Leave your iPad/computer/usb keys/cables at home! Your bag gets x-rayed at the door and there is nowhere to store your bag if you have any "contraband". The only suggestion I got was for wien mitte, which is a train station rather far away. Coins and phone chargers were included on the "not allowed" poster, but apparently those are less strictly regulated? The grumpy front desk lady described in a previous review (or her spiritual twin) was still working there, she was brusque, but polite.
I sat down and was eventually called up to the window and a lady checked my paperwor... read complete review

Very easy in and out. My (now) wife spent an hour with the interviewer and she said it was low stress. We did show up early and they told us to wait. The front desk lady definitely did not like her job or people but the reviewing agent was very nice. She was delayed because she forgot passport pictures. They allowed her to go across the street, take new one, and then continue the interview process. Before she left they told her to come back in one week to pick up her passport. Very stress free. I sat in the downstairs hotel and took a nap in the comfortable chairs.
