My interview was conducted on the 6th of February, 2013 at 8 AM and it was a painless, enjoyable experience. The staff was professional, friendly and courteous, and while they were thorough with their procedure at no point in the interview was I made to feel scrutinized or uncomfortable.
I live in Sydney, so it was no problem getting to the consulate at the MLC center around 7:15. As the elevators to the 10th floor do not operate for public access until after 7:30, I sat in the lobby and waited for fifteen minutes with some other interviewees. After we got up to the tenth floor, the consulate doors opened and I was the first one through.
We lined up single file in front of reception, where a lovely lady checked my passport and placed a tick next to my name in her list. I then was told to place all of my things on the security screening belt. Here I had to take any electronic devices out of my bag. I passed through security with no trouble and deposited my ... read complete review

For my interview I flew into Sydney the night before and stayed at the City Lodge Hotel. (Only $89 for the night and they give you free cookies, tea & coffee in your room!)
The next day I arrived at the MLC Centre at 8.30am for my 9am appointment. I took the elevator up to the 10th floor, walked around to the U.S. Consulate security room and in my nervous state managed to drag the door stop along with my small luggage bag half way across the room. Embarrassed I just pretended not to notice, and I guess nobody else had, so the door stopper remained in the middle of the room while I pulled my bags up through the scanner. They checked my bags and kept my suitcase there while I carried my papers up to the next elevator. When you get out of the elevator there's a woman sitting behind a glass walled room where you need to give her your passport. She'll check your name off the list and you'll proceed through double doors to the room where all the fun happens! You need to take a... read complete review

First and foremost, I want to let everyone else who is going to go in for an interview to not worry! They are perfectly lovely and professional!
I arrived at the MLC center really early (approx 7 am) for my 8 am interview. There is a food court downstairs to have a bite to eat and coffee if anyone was planning on doing that.
I tried to get up the elevator to Level 10 for the security check but it was 7:28 and you can't get up there until 7:30.
Security screening require you to show passport and check your name off a list. They then ask for you to take all electronics out of your bag (ipods, phone, camera and even earphones) then proceed to screen your bag. Any drink bottles, you have to drink out off and then they ask for you to take your wallet out of your hand bag and check your bag in (given a number).
You sit in rows of chairs and wait to be asked to take the elevator up to the 59th floor. Once up on the floor, the guard a... read complete review

Oh my gosh I can\'t tell you how good it feels to click on that \"Approval\" button on my VJ Timeline!
What a day! Up at 4am for a 6am coach to Sydney from Canberra with my 3 kiddos. The charge on the iPods didn\'t last as long as I\'d hoped but had some jelly babies on back up.
So, got to the Consulate at 10.30am and went up to Level 10 Reception, all through Security and then straight up to the Consulate. In the foyer of the Level 10 Security there is a huge photograph on the wall of Glacier National Park in Montana, just near where there kids and I will be living.... took it as a good sign
Showed my Passport to a lady before she buzzed me into the Consulate. Collected my ticket to wait and sat down. Poor kids, after 4 hours on a Coach they now had to sit patiently until we were called. After about an hour we called up, they were pretty busy. The lady had our file there, several inches thick, and gradually went through the process ... read complete review
