He doesn't have internet, nor can he type. We use Digicel - he buys the phone, I recharge online. #135 for 180 minutes a week at about $3-4.

I also have a Honduras Calling Card to call him on from www.nobelcom.com. It's more expensive than him calling me, but at least I CAN call him without paying more than .14 per minute.

I like Skype to Skype calls the best (since it's free), but if I need to phone him, I buy phone cards from Zaptel.com--they just email you the code to your card and the numbers to call, so it's easier than tracking down a good international card at a store!

I highly recommend the following Calling card..

https://www.mobilecaller.com/

I've been with them for years, and have had absolutely great experience with this card.. It can be recharged online...

It has speed dial feature, local and toll free access, and they seem to charge true usage... The rates are still the best of all the other cards I've seen...

My wife is now here in the USA, and she uses this card all the time to keep in touch back home with her friends.. for 20.00 usd we get 400 minutes to call a cell in Colombia and over 1000 minutes to call a standard landline..

This has been a very reliable service for years.. Highly recommend it.. :star::star::star::star::star::star: 6 Stars...

We e-mail and text numerous times a day.

For international calling including Canada and Europe I use Startec Long Distance Company. They are very reasonable, you are able to use your cell phone and you can add as many numbers as you want that you will be calling from...cell, home, work...

Personally, I prefer to use my home phone. I get unlimited international calling for $35.00 ontop of my local calls of $19.00 with AT&T. If I AM using my cell phone to say a "Hey, I'll be home late tonight- I'll call you at such and such time", I use SPRINT and have their International Plan that is an additional $5.00 a month and charges $10 a minute instead of the $45 a minute I'd get without it.

Other options is this little device called the magic jack! You buy it for $19 and it allows you to use your phone through the internet FOR FREE. Basically, it's a free land line phone you can use to call ppl international. My Step-Mother uses it to call her daughters in Brazil.

http://www.magicjack.com/6/index.asp

Another option is Skype! At the time I used it, it was FREE for international calls. It worked okay.

My Husband and I are both video game nerds, so we use the internet to communicate and spend time together A LOT by playing multi-player games online and use our web cams every so often with Skype.

With us, we are gaming nerds as well, and play a lot on Live to stay in touch.... it does cost me 300 a month in cell charges, but I use way too many daytime minutes... it is an add on that saves me from 1000 dollar bills again.... unlimited north america that uses your minutes instead of LD charges, and I Have an unlimited evenings and weekends, so after 6 it's free to me... saved A TON per month compared to before.... Thank you Rogers.... LOL

Skype! And Skype mobile :)

Also, GMAIL calls are free to any number in the US, so I use that to call Tim alot :)

I just discovered that you can call US phones for free on GMAIL the other day! I have wasted so much on purchasing skype credit!

I also find that the quality of video/voice calls is much better through gmail then skype.

You can also download an iphone app called 'Talkatone' to log into your gmail account and use 3G for free calls to any US phone! I have seriously saved hundreds of dollars a month - wish I knew earlier!

HOORAY!

You people with fiances in places where internet is available should really consider yourselves lucky. Internet is rare and slow in Mongolia. We've skyped 5 times in the last 7 8 months, and it's usually grainy/skippy.

I use voice.google.com to call her. It's 15 cents a minute. We talk twice a day for about 30 minuutes. So expensive...

I sent a laptop with webcam to my wife and had to pay about $100 for internet every month(more expensive than my monthly pay over here). Yet, the connection was horribly slow and unstable ...really frustrating. I ended up giving up on it and just used rebtel to call. I spent over $900 dollars on phone calls to my wife last year. :help:
