ok i just finished getting the three certificates asked for, the antecedentes policiales, the anteacedentes penales, and the antecedentes judiciales a nivel nacional. i will lay it out step by step for each one, for the benefit of anyone trying to do this step. it was a large pain in the rear and lots of unneccesary trips, so hopefully you will be able to do it more smoothly.

1. Certificado de Policia

This has to be done at Av. Aramburu 550 (take any bus that goes to the Via Expresa, get off at Puente Aramburu, walk 2 blocks to the big green building, use the side entrance)

a. pay fee of about s/. 20 at any BANCO DE LA NACION

b. get one passport sized foto. You can also take the photo there, but it takes a looong time, and costs s/.5

c. get a photo copy of DNI

d. get a photo copy of the payment voucher from the bank (both copies can be made right outside the side entrance)

Ready to pick up the next day.

2. Certificado Judicial de Antecedentes Penales

This has to be done at the Ministerio del Publico, Av. Abancay. Use door 1. Get there early.

a. pay fee of s/. 60.40 at any BANCO DE LA NACION

b. the photo is taken there, and there is no charge.

c. get photocopy of DNI

d. get photocopy of payment voucher from the bank

Ready to pick up the same day, but then you have to take it somewhere else to get it ´legalized´which can only be done before 2 pm.

Legalization of Antecedentes Penales

This has to be done at the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores on the corner of Ucayali and Lampa, about 3 blocks from the Ministerio del Publico.

a. wait in line, show the document to be legalized. they only let in one person per document.

b. pay s/. 22.25 once inside

if you get there early enough, you could pick it up in a few hours. if not you have to go back the next day. There will be a line, outside and inside. expect to wait about 45mins to pick up the newly legalilzed document. on the ticket they give you to pick up your doc, there is a time written in red marker. ask the doorman what hour the people in line are waiting for because you might not have to wait outside.

3. Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales a nivel nacional

This needs to be done at the INPE Av. Carabayo 451 about 3 blocks from the Ministerio del Publico.

NOTE. this was the biggest headache.. there are TWO certificados de Antecedentes Judiciales. one is only valid for Lima, and will do you no good. Aparently the bank teller was not aware that there were two different certificates, and charged me the s/. 28 for the Lima regional cert, even though i clearly specified that I needed the NATIONAL cert. You need to make a deposit into the checking account of the INPE for the amount of s/. 34.95.

a. deposit s/. 34.95 into account number 0000.281794. do this at the BANCO DE LA NACION in the Plaza Pizarro, next to the Palacio.

b. take 2 carne sized photos

c. give original reciept of payment

d. photocopy of DNI

Ready to be picked up in 10 working days.

Hope this helps someone!

That was soooo helpful!!! Thanks!!

We just got our NOA2 on Tuesday and I am trying to get everything organized ahead of time.

Does the birth certificate have to be stamped at RENIEC?

Do any of those documents (antecedents and/or birth certificate) need to be translated into English?

Other than the forms that come in Packet 3/4 and the antecedents and partida de nacimiento, anything else my fiance needs to prepare?

Thanks for your help!!!

hi lindsey and koki

the birth cert only needs to be stamped by reniec if it is from outside of lima. for example angel was born in abancay, so even though his birth cert said reniec on in, we still had to take it to reniec in lima to get it 'authenticated' which means they have to look at the city registrar's signiture and deem that it is authentic, then they stamp it and you are good to go.

if he was born in lima, and the birth cert is from reniec lima, you dont have to do that.

also, this can only be done at the central reniec in centro de lima, on jr cuzco, right off of abancay behind the poder judicial. we had waited in line for 4 hours at reniec in san juan de miraflores after being told we could do it there, only to get up to the window and be sent to the cetro de lima reniec. so just because its in lima doesnt make it the official reniec.

just more hoops...

i translated his birth cert, but they didnt need it, and we didnt have anything else translated.

that should be it, other than the physical medical results, evidence of your relationship and his financial papers.

if you are using an affadavit of support (i-134) you will need your last 3 years of tax returns plus any pertinant banking/stock/real estate information. i know that my income alone (non-existant, as i am a student) would not have sufficed, so my parents also submitted all of their financial info and they filled out an affadavit as well.

let me know if you have any other questions!

we got married yesterday. just hang in there, things will be ok. you guys are in the hardest part right now.

good luck!

bmadeline,

Thanks!! Again, very helpful! One more question. Do all the police certificates need to be done in Lima? My fiance is from Huaraz (Ancash) and he says there are INPE and Ministerio del Publico offices in the department. Can he get it there instead of making an 8 hour bus trip to Lima?

Is it true that after you are issued the visa you have to pay $30 to get it stamped in your passport?

Congrats on your marriage!!!! I hope to be married by the end of the year!

Hi

I'm not sure about whether or not they have to be done in Lima, because my husband and I were living in Lima so we had to do them there.

I think one of them, if I'm not mistaken its the one you get from the actual police, has to be done everywhere he has lived since turning 16, so i guess that means getting one from ancash, and anywhere else he has lived. def. the antecedentes judiciales (a nivel nacional) HAS to be done in Lima.

I'd have him call the consulate to be sure, but he is going to have to go to Lima at some point for other paperwork, like authenticating his out-of-lima birth certificate, so he might as well do them there just to be sure.

call the consulate. i would hate to give you bad advice.

also, we did not have to pay $30 to get the visa page into the passport. its not really a stamp either, its a printed out sticker thats the size of the passport and its stuck onto one of the empty pages in the passport.

you will have to pay $5 for DHL to pick up your passport and drive it to the DHL office in San Isidro, which i find completely rediculous, but yeah, thats the only other fee to pay.

DONT forget to pay the $100 at the bank before the interview!! I almost did, and I had a very sad day when I figured that one out.

Our meeting was on a monday at 9:00am. I remembered that I hadn't paid, like the easiest thing on the list, the day before, SUNDAY, and had to try to find a way to pay it. I did eventually find an actual bank that was open on a sunday afternoon, which I take to have been some kind of miracle...
