AOS Medical

My wife came to the US on K1 visa.  had her medical done at SLEC in Manila end of November and got her visa in December.  She has applied for AOS.  When she had her medical she did not want to get the vaccinations so she needs them now.  However, I am having difficulty getting a civil surgeon to understand that she does not need a medical exam, as explained in the From 693 instructions.  What can I do? No civil surgeon will accept health insurance.   I can get the vaccinations for free with my health insurance and am willing to pay for an office visit to get the civil surgeon to sign off.  I am beginning to think this is all part of a scam that USCIS allows.

Keep searching for a CS that will sign the form with only vaccinations. Really, she should have had them done at SLEC...there's no extra cost involved if she did them at that time.

My wife and her son had to complete their vaccinations here as well. I had to call around to about 7 or 8 civil surgeons.  One of them even wanted to charge us about $300 just for transcribing the vaccination records to the I-693.  I finally found one that would do it and he did it for only $50 per application.  Just keep calling around and hopefully one will be honest.

Have to agree that doing the vaccinations at the medical would have been, simply put the cheapest and easiest way but, that's done and all now so... like others have said since you have to deal with a CS now, just have to keep searching.

Thanks all.  I have called around.  I will do what I have to do and pay what I have to pay but I will write to my Senator and complain.  I doubt that will help but USCIS does not seem to care.  I've called and called CS and have even gotten contradictory info from the same CS company.  I'm running out of places to call.  As one CS explained to me, they do not often get requests for AOS from K1. I tried to explain the rules to another CS, reading right from the 693 instructions but the CS would have none of it.

That's not uncommon. Doctors (and their offices) don't know immigration law or want to learn it. They just want to do their examinations and bill for it. The vast majority of patients a CS sees do not require only vaccinations transcribed as they are doing AOS from another visa, which requires the full medical examination.

Unless there was a medical reason not to have it like pregnancy and getting the mmr done. You should be complaining to her, st Luke’s includes them in the price I thought, unlike Medicals in other countries. If she had just had them they would have been free and no need to see a USCIS approved doc in the us. They don’t have to see you if you don’t want the medical done so now you have to abide by their requirements.

I think she just has a fear of needles.  Not going to start an argument with my wife.  What's done is done.  I may have found someone to handle this.  Just makes for a lot more effort and stress but isn't that what marriage is all about.

Just went through this as well, finally found a CS who kind of knew what he was doing about a 2 hour drive away.  The CS in my city wanted to charge $500 for a new physical!  I tried many different routes with each CS I called, some asking for help, some asking them to open the instructions and the sheet so they could read the rules, etc. etc. but the only luck I had was to keep calling until I found a CS that knew the rules.  Ultimately, now, I wish my partner had just done them as a part of the medical and will encourage anyone going through this process to get it done then, before arriving, because it's a pain to try to get it taken care of after.
