Applying for my parents visit visa

On the ds 160 i chose B1 and B2 and stated that as tourism? Is that ok? I was looking for an option more like “visiting family” or soemthing. 

Also i have another question

since my parents are applying. Should they fill out ds 160 forms separately and apply separately?

Saying they are visiting family is perfectly fine. Each applicant fills out their own application separately.

 

Just so you know, you are free to help your parents fill out the proper forms but it is their application. There is no sponsorship for visitor visas.

What do you mean; theres no sponsership?

It means you can help fill out the forms, but they have to qualify on their own. Invitation letters, affidavits of support, etc. won't help them.

From the posts I've read. it's a common (mis)perception among South Asians that a US person can sponsor a visitors visa. No. Such. Thing. 

 

B2 applicants qualify for a visa on their own merit.  99.9% of the time, affidavits of support and/or invitation letters are never looked at during an interview that lasts all of 2 minutes.
