According to the USCIS website, Atlanta are processing cases as of "August 20, 2016".

USCIS processing times do not represent usual, average processing times of individuals who clear fingerprinting process without issues!

There are several law offices that wrote in-depth articles on USCIS processing time, and all came to conclusion that it is difficult to assess what processing times mean for an average applicant.

To get approx. processing time for your office, add ~4-6 months to the date from USCIS website.

For example, current processing time in Atlanta is "August 20, 2016" as of "July 12", meaning that they are currently processing applicants with NOA received in August 2016.

This is incorrect since, applicants who applied in August 2016 already became citizens in March 2017.

Best way to gage interview date is to look at:

http://www.trackitt.com/usa-immigration-trackers/n400

and visa journey forum specific for month when application was submitted. Eg:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/634038-n-400-may-2017-filers for May 2017 filers.

These timelines are pretty accurate for those applicants, who clear Background check without issues .

In my case, my predictions on when I will get an interview were correct down to 7 days (I had my interview 7 days before my predicted date).

Maybe not, but if you call the USCIS that is the time frame they quote and use to thin out calls before they assist.  Someone on VJ recently summed it up by saying those are probably the "oldest" cases they are working on right now, as we know there are always some folks that get processed a lot quicker than others.

It's not even my FO - so I don't really care too much - I was just answering a question.

I just checked trackitt. One guy in Los Angeles filed office got the interview date just in the next week. And his fp date is June 30th. That's so fast. And it's a paper application.

I just looked on trackitt and it seems there are a lot of filers for Boston too that already got interview dates for filing around the same time as us.  That's crazy!

So I had an infopass today. My FIL has terminal cancer and the prognosis is not good. We will have to return to Europe to help family and be with him before he dies. We got letters from doctors and asked if the case could be expedited for a medical emergency. We will be there for a prolonged period.

Our congressman contacted them last week about it also.

So I spoke to a supervisor who said she would recommend its approval for expediting and will just forward to the chief for a final approval . Within 10 mins of me leaving the congressmans office calls and says on Friday they denied my request .

So so I don know why the supervisor said they would help us. Maybe she didn't see the denial. I don't know but it's been such a waste of energy. I'm just going to have to hope that FIL can hang on for another while because we aren't in a position to halt everything now. I'm not going through this again. This process is harder than I thought. I don't mind waiting my turn but I hate to feel trapped by the whole process. And I hate that it is impossible to get a straight answer when you ask

Oh my gosh, I am sorry to hear that.  I thought you were going to say the congressman's office called to say it was approved.  Maybe you can talk to that supervisor again and see if there is something they can do??  This actually happened to my husband early on while we were doing his AOS.  I hope you are able to see your FIL.

Really sorry to hear this, I would suggest not waste your time, and fly out and support FIL and the family, leave someone trusted to check your mail, and come back for the interview. You are still allowed up to 6 months outside the US to be eligible, and you can update your interviewer on this showing medical letters, etc.  to justify your absence. Unfortunately in my case all I could do is fly out for the funeral after N400 had been filed.

Thanks @allajustin and @vosnmars. It is a very sad time in our house. I will just have to believe there is a reason for all of this and stay on the path to the ultimate goal which is to become American Citizens. They said there was no reason to expedite because we can just apply for a reentry permit if we had to leave for a longer time frame.

The confusing part is why the supervisor told me she would see no issue in approving it, and no more than 5 minutes after I walk out the Congressman says they denied it on Friday. So frustrating to be strung along. But, we will remain positive. Im sorry you had a similar rough experience @allajustin
